SPEAKER UPDATE: I've noticed with the speakers plugged in, the scanner will get hung up on certain frequencies. I'm just guessing here, but it may be due to the shared ground with the computer that the cheap speakers are sharing power with. Has anyone else had this issue with better computer speakers that are NOT getting power from their computer?

The speaker cable picks up interferencies that gets directed to the antenna. It's always an improvement if the antenna can be remotly placed thru a coax cable where you have less electronic devices that can interfere.

Thanks. After I get the Discone put up this spring I'll revisit the speaker situation.

I found out mine was hanging on conventional frequencies that were trying to make their mind up on filters.

I get a little queasy about constantly plugging and unplugging external speakers into the jacks of the SDS series. Those familiar with the architecture of these jacks know that they are no built to last forever. Also, (and some may feel that this is a bit extreme), but I never use the volume control switch to power off the SDS200. I simply turn the volume down to it lowest level so as to not put unnecessary wear & tear on the on/off switch.

I would have been more comfortable with a bluetooth connection for an external speaker. Perhaps this can be engineered into a future version.

I have this issue with most of my electronics too. I actually have extension cables for anything that may be unplugged often for that reason. My PC, scanner, anything has a small extension cable that runs USB extensions or hubs, audio whatever from the main ports. If theres wear and tear it will be on the 50 cent 2 inch USB cable instead of the main unit. Im sure theres small 1-2 inch extension cable you could use for your applications as to not stress the main jacks

At present, I owned two Uniden external chargers with 5 large batteries. I never ever charge batteries inside a radio. It is the way I roll and my personal preference.

I'm sort of six of one, and a half dozen of the other. Whatever is convenient at the time works for me. But I agree, personal preference as there really is no right or wrong way.

I went back a ways on this thread to re-read it a little. The topic of a bluetooth transmitter in the speaker jack intrigued me. I have a hardly ever used bluetooth speaker that could be put back into use, then I could take the speaker all over the house. I of course would not always know what frequency I was listening to, but I could even take it in the shower! :p

Which bluetooth dongle is the favorite among you guys?

I like this! The bullet adapter would be a better solution unless it fell over, God forbid. I prefer this as opposed to the dangling cord. Thanks.
You are not doing your antenna any favors for omni reception with that right beside it.... me thinks.
