• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yes, it is possible.

All the pins you need are on the rear DB25.
There will need to be some programming of the pin functions to make it work.

You really should include a controller in the middle so remote knockdown is an option.

The radios will do a Morse ID function.

You need to keep power level low. These radios are not designed to be repeaters and running high duty cycles at 45 watts will give you trouble. Run them in low power and make sure you set the time out timer for something reasonable.

Add cooling fan for the TX radio to help with heat build up.

Yes the NX-800 has CW ID up to 32 characters - Yea! The only way to set off the CW ID is to press a button - boo!

I've toyed with the idea of remote knockdown using the Aux A or B output and tripping it with a status message. Haven't tried it though to see if it's feasible.

If you only connect radio to radio the receive audio (AFO) is way too hot for the mic input (MI2) of the other radio. You need to pad the audio down to an acceptable level.

Damn, thought there was a way to trigger it, but you are right.

Another good reason to use an external controller, unless this is GMRS where it's not really required (but a good idea).

HELLO , i SEE THIS A FEW YEAR AGO:
If you need caller ID, you should use NXR710/810/NXR5700/NXR5800 repeater.
If you want to use 2 NX-700/800 as a repeater in NXDN conventional mode (don't need caller ID).
Rx radio ---------TxRadio

DB25-12pin Input External PTT(Voice) Low No
DB25-22pin Output TOR Low

Set UID for 2 radios in Edit/NXDN/NXDN1/Unit ID (Own): 1
