The 2000 F-150 doesn't have a full double din enclosure, so normal installation didn't work out. I have a BCD996T that I wanted to install, but its faceplate would have had to overlap the stereo's as there isn't enough vertical room for a full double stacked single DIN install. As it was, I still had to cut a lot of material out of the truck. I would have taken pics of the install itself, but the camera's battery was dead and I didn't have time to wait for it to charge. Photos were all taken after I finished the installation.

For years I used a handheld stuffed in the cupholder. I got tired of it staying in the way, so when my cd changer died, I decided to put in a cheap single DIN stereo that can play mp3's straight off a jump drive. The BCT-8 isn't made for this kind of install, but it worked, and I was able to mount it at a more normal depth than I would have the 996T.

Not pictured is the Uniden ESP-20 external speaker, mounted in the floor against the heater, and the suction cup mounted duckie antenna routed and mounted on the back glass so that I don't have any external antennae. I don't need long range, so the duckie works fine.

Some of the stuff I cut out. There was a bunch more still laying in the floorboard.

How 'bout some antenna pics? The install looks great; uncanny how much stuff you had to rip out of the dash to get the scanner and associated hardware installed.

That's what I get for stuffing all that stuff into a non-standard hole. :)

Here's the antenna. Looks like my daughter drew a star on the glass. :p

Here is the speaker too. I really wanted up around my head somewhere, but the speaker is too bulky to look decent mounted anywhere up top.

Nice; You might want to consider "an upgrade" at some time, i.e., multi-band mobile specific antenna cut for frequencies you monitor, or simply a VHF 18" whip. I use such an antenna for my mobile scanner and it works just fine from low band VHF all the way to 700-800 MHz digital trunked systems.

I like that "paw print" on the Uniden Bearcat speaker! Looks like someone's pooch stepped on it leaving a perfectly centered impression!

I went with the duckie to purposely keep everything inside the truck. My lights are hideway also. I want the truck to look as un-whacker as possible until the rare occasion when I really need it to be seen and heard.

I use the scanner to monitor frequencies for the times when I don't have my service radios with me. My county vol fire frequency is on VHF as are the EMS and rescue squads, but my city FD and the police and sherriff frequencies are UHF. The repeaters are located near me, in the center of the county, so I never get out of range of the duckie before leaving the county. There is one dead spot in the western part of the county, but we have trouble with that area even with the mobiles using tuned antennae mounted on the engines. Since BCT8 doesn't use tones, I guess I'm better off with shorter reception anyway. :)

The speaker is an ESP20 that I found new on eBay for just about $12 shipped. Looks like they are hovering around $14 now.
