• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

How does the owner system id get set? Does motorola do that before shipping or just which ever first ASK touches the radio.
when purchased done when the serial number and flashcode are dropped in the radio by the factory.... and a caution- software that can't be named and shouldn't be used... can really screw up things... Lots of system owners won't let a radio on the system unless its ASK Required and locked to their SYS ID. Already went round and round with a used radio dealer cause he couldn't figure out how to make the used hacked/whacked radios have the proper flash

Yes they can. Set it to ID 1, which APX CPS gives you for free.
So--- I change a hard coded read only field to 1 then program ok? I'd love to know how to do that with the regular software....

See attached picture (one to verify flash code and show it has the ASK Enable option)

I currently have ASK Required unchecked so I can reprogram conventional stuff without digging out or using an advanced key. Especially since my Surface Pro tablet only has USB-C ports makes life a lot easier without having to drag out a lot of adapter cables or hubs etc..........

Regardless of whether ASK Required is checkmarked... the Owner Advanced Key type is grayed out (unselectable) along with the Owner System ID (also grayed out and unselectable)

If that can be changed... let me know. I'd love to know how.

Deleting the trunked system for the owner system and dropping in a generic system of SYSID=1 won't do it.

That software based ASK that shows on the System Key Report won't let you write to the radio if no physical hard key ASK is connected --AND-- the check mark is in ASK Required field in the codeplug.

I’ve had them come back from the depot with the wrong owner system ID and I’m pretty sure the fix was they sent me an ASK with that ID and I was able to change it to what our ASK was. That’s been several years ago, maybe things have changed.

And the ASK they sent expired in like a week or so.

I think that's a privilege level within the ASK; not just any ASK can change that. The same applies to write-protecting the radio - some of them do, and some of them don't.
That being said, IF these radios are not write-protected, then the ASK is not needed to do regular conventional programming. An ASK would only be required for trunking. It's also not difficult for somebody with voldemort software to remove that entirely, or just change it to legacy key.
