To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am working on getting my brand new BCT-15 programed (confusing on how to get it to only scan one system)..
As soon as thats done I am going to mount it in my trunk, and mount the RH96 in the cockpit somewhere safe/ out of the way.

Problem.. RH-96 does not come with enough cable to "nicely" wire it. Is there a special cable i need to buy to extend it, or just go to radio shack and purchase a matching ending cable /pc speaker extension?

OK First....

As far as your scanner only scanning one system... Get whoever is doing the programming to assign the systems with quickkeys. If you not sure what that is look to you manual for help. That way you can turn systems on and off by pushing the numbers on the front panel.

Second the RH-96 comes with all you need to connet it to the scanner. It uses the serial port on the back of the scanner. That will give the remote head all it needs to control and operate the scanner.

I hope this helped i am sorry if it did not.

I took the last hour to read through the user manual, and found out more in depth about the quick keys..

With the RH-96, 10 feet of cable to nicely run the wires from the trunk to the dash is not enough. So the 2nd question still remains.. is there a "SPECIAL" cable that i need to buy, or just use an extension that has a matching male plug on it from radio shack?

Well that would be a real good question... I would have to say you prolly going to have to call scanner master and talk to them and ask what other connecters there is.

That would be the only thing i could think of. Sorry.....

Alright, got almost everything installed.. all I need is an extension cable for the external speaker.-----

For the BCT-15, light dimmer option, do you splice into your parking lights, or do you splice into a dimming wire for your instrument panel??

I would think it would be like a car stereo and you can splice into the dimmer on your wiring harness of your radio or you could splice into your instrument panel or even tail lights.

Whats the manual recommend?

The manual says this
Connect the ORANGE lead to one side of the headlamp switch so that when
you activate the headlights, the scanner’s LCD display changes intensity. Be
sure all the connections are routed away from any potentially pinching or
slicing sheet metal.

So Im guessing just tap the wire that goes to parking lights (obviously not the wires for the turn signals )

ksduster, for the collective knowledge of the group, what did you find out about extending the connector cable longer than 10 feet?

I found that a normal audio extention cable From radio shack works great..
I will take pictures and post them later this evening. I will also show what cable from radio shack i used for extending the RH96 further than 10 feet from the bct15

INSTALL w/ PICS

alright these are the parts I bought for my install

For the RH-96 extension I bought a 1/4" to 1/4" stereo extension cable - 20ft from Radio shack. Part number -42-2556

It works great!

For the BCT-15 I purchased the following
1. NMO - Trunk lip mount
2. EX-107 dual band antenna
3. Clear tone external speaker - & 6 foot stereo extension cable from walmart

For the BCT15 auto dimmer wire, i connected it to the "brown wire" on the harness located on the passenger side.
