i work in watauga county i do know that the sheriffs dept wants to switch to the viper system but they have to put up atleast 5 to 6 towers because of the mountain terrain. i do know that when they do switch over they deputies will keep the old 150 mhz radios in there car to keep in contact with blowing rock pd, boone pd etc. and the little depts probably wont switch over to that system for a long time.

I-Call Control Channel Data?

Been listening to the Onslow County-Holly Ridge tower (Site 118) and hear CC data on 708136. Does anyone know what this is used for?

Check your programming bro...708136 is a RID (Radio ID) not a Talkgroup ID (TGID). What type of radio are you using? Could just be bleedover...try disabling Icalls....or just lockout that one individual RID.

It kept popping up when in search mode, so I had to lock it out. My 396 and 996 pick it up just fine. Haven't tried it on the Pro-96 yet.

Don't worry about even trying the Pro 96 as that scanner is incapable of monitoring ICalls or RIDs. An Icall (or private call) is 2 radios contacting each other away from a regular talkgroup. the 396/996 display these as RID RID. Example: 708136 705135 which would be Radio User 708136 trying to contact Radio User 705135. I promise you what you have there is bleedover. Meaning that you should not be hearing the CC on that RID. So just lockout that individual RID and enjoy monitoring all of the other action on the radio :)

kd8x are you talking about the Mooresville VIPER site or the Mooresville TRS? I know my XTS 2500 worked fine on the city TRS the last few days. :)

Im talking about the Mooresville TRS not Viper....I cant get it to decode yesterday or today...When I listen to the CC frequency somthing just doesn't sound quite right ie it is not the usual machine gun sound....It sounds like it is almost off frequency or fading in and out....

Two options:
1) Move closer to the closest tower site
or
2) Use a better antenna.
Thats pretty much your options.

Check your programming. Sounds like that 868.850 is probably incorrectly programmed in as Conventional FM instead of Motorola as it should be. Remind me of which model of scanner you are using?
