I have had the radios installed for a while. Today I just removed the Kustom Signals Eyewitness video system I had installed. Out of parts for 3 units I was unable to make one work properly. I bought a Top Dawg dash camera on my way home from work last night. I can not put the info on the recording I had planned on with the Kustom Signals, but the date and time stamp will have to do. I am working on setting up a small video monitor made my Citizen that came out of an old mobile video unit to mount on the dash that will be easier to see. Here are pictures of my install so far.

And let us know how well that dash camera works for you. It looks a lot like the cheap one I got off of Ebay that was from China. Lasted a whole week before it stopped working and the seller didn't answer any e-mails!

What a hot mess. Can't decide which I like best... The 2 liter of diabetes juice, the sick *** dent in the back, or the unlabeled prescription bottle.

Great install!

You may want to hold your phone sideways when you take pictures also. That way you won't have all that black space on either side of the photos. Other than that just make sure all that stuff on the dash is secured. That stuff can hurt when it goes flying around in an accident. Have fun!

Thanks for the replies!! I got the small monitor installed today. I didn't think about holding the phone sideways when I took the pictures. The Dew is "diet" LOL. The unlabled bottles are good for holding small screws. The dent was thanks to someone where my wife was working that didn't know how to park. I will see how well the camera works and lasts. There is no way I can afford a new unit that Kustom has now, even though it is nice. Everything is in the rear view mirror, monitor and controls. I do have a Decatur unit but it was made for a Crown Vic and will not fit the Taurus. I really do not like center consoles!!!!. The radar unit is an old Speedo-1 x band radar. It was made to be an electronic speedometer. I have had that since the mid 80's. Here are the rest of my install pictures.

What do you need a radar unit for? The in-car video I SORT of understand. More and more people throughout the world (mainly Russia where there is a ton of fraud) use them. We all remember the dash cam videos of the meteor in Russia a few months back. But I don't understand the need for the radar unit.

To the OP, not sure if you're a cop or not...

You may want to read over this thread about having a radar in your car. I didn't read over the whole thread or really do any research, just providing some info.

Since radars TRANSMIT, you ARE REQUIRED to have an FCC license for those..... just sayin'.

This isn't your 'bought it at Best Buy baseball radar' unit which does NOT require a license.

Come on guys! I can't think of all the times having radar in my car has helped me. Cops just love being told how fast they're going!

It helps to have the radar turned on while going through construction zones. The unit I have is covered under part 15 of the FCC and only transmitts with 100 mw. I have the video in the car due to putting up with too many so called "professional" drivers that don't know the first thing about driving safe. I'm sure Motor Carrier Enforcement would like to see some of the video I have had in the past. I have also been told that if I have video of an unsafe driver it can be turned in and will possibly be investagated if the video is clear, the location can be determined, and if license numbers are visible. Law enforcement would review the video and if they feel it needs to be further investagted it would be turned over to the prossecutor for the county it took place in.

Wait, did I miss something? Don't you have a spedometer?

What possible reason would someone who is not a police officer need a radar gun and a in car video system? That excuse you use is a justification of some sort of idea of watching " Professional drivers". That is the job of law enforcement. Not some self appointed road ranger in a old ford Taurus with scanners.

I have to agree with most of the others that have posted here about having a radar in your car???? Providing video of an erratic driver is a good idea but would you not have to be able to id the driver of said vehicle??? I could see a warning going to the registered owner but a ticket without out identifying the driver is a stretch.

Don't worry about all the naysayers here. Obviously you are gadget person and I'm on your side. Gadgets you use don't have to be a necessity but if you enjoy using them then go for it. You only get one turn on this world so you might as well have fun while you are here.

Among other things, a radar unit can take the boredom out of a long trip. Seeing how far away you can pick up an oncoming car is a challenge. Setting the mode to 'stationary' while moving to see what the highest combined speed you can get is always fun to do. After awhile you will find that by listening to the Doppler shift audio you can almost always guess the correct speed of an approaching vehicle without looking at the display. Obviously folks may think I must have one but I don't - I have many. No, I'm not a cop but I do work on and install the dang things along with everything else that goes in a patrol car so it to my advantage to see what they can and can't do with them. When I get the interface set up I will be able to put my speed and the target speed on the display of my Kustom Eyewitness video system in my old '87. You never know when you might get something that will help you or someone else later on.

Give the OP a break about how he sets up equipment in his car and that also goes to 'if-you-don't-drill-a-hole-in-your-car-you-are-going-to-hell' crowd. If he is happy with his setup and it does what he wants, leave him alone.

My 2 cents...
