Today me and my son finished up his FT-7900 install in his 2009 Chevy Impala. Were using an Antennex trunk lip mount and routed the cable through the existing wiring cable. The radio is mounted with a Proclip mounting bracket. The radio is mounted to a thin board under the center console which is held in place with the hook side of Velcro against the carpet. The radio is hardwired to the battery terminal in the engine compartment.

are you using the auxilary input in the car to listen over the car speakers with that cable? I use mine every once in a while with the old hand held.

Nope, it's mainly used for his iPhone. Were the radio is mounted, the audio comes through nice and clear.

Pretty sweet. I usually ride people about drilling holes for antennas but I think that looks pretty cool. Kinda has that undercover look. A+

Wise,

Thank you very much for the info! I used the information you provided me and did the same install for my vehicle!! I got the 800Mhz antenna and the multiband antenex. Ive enclosed a picture with the (larger antenna) multiband installed. The only thing I am worried about is the bend in the wire near the trunk mount. Is it ok for it to bend that much?

J

Your install looks great. You can even snug down the cable a little more if you want. I made sure the cable didn't touch the side of the trunk when we closed the lid. It's will bend just find. As long as the cable is not being beaten when you close the trunk, your fine. I secured my cable by running it along with the third brake lite harness. That way it stayed snug and looked factory. Looking at your picture, yours is bendinging just like mine so I say your good to go.

Thanks!

I just got a 2010 Impala...thanks for the tips on the install...It's exactly what I want to do. No holes, one radio (FT7800).

Your install looks great...will check out the mount bracket you used.

Nice install...how does the comet B-10 perform trunk lip mounted. I was going to order that antenna but went with one of the slightly longer comet antenna.
