I noticed yesterday that the green and yellow for updated areas were of a richer hue.

Don't suppose there's any chance of getting Canadian county level maps eventually? :)

iOS devices are marked as mobile devices and we only display text links for mobile devices on the country and state pages (even the HTML5 maps in a touch environment aren't easy to use) - we display the map for the county location to provide a representation of where the county is located in relation to the rest of the state. Not as a navigation feature per se.

They worked fine on my Android phone, once I set Opera to report as a desktop. So far the colors are more vibrant. I will check on my laptop, where the yellow was rather washed out.

The trouble with "counties" in Canada is that not all provinces are divided into counties per se. There needs to be some agreement for DB purposes as to what that particular level of geopolitical division includes for Canada.

Actually, IIRC, the true trouble is that Lindsay's map provider back when maps were being introduced didn't have anything more granular than provincial maps.

Every province and territory, with the exception of the Yukon, has some kind of division. The two that don't have some kind of county-like divisions are British Columbia and Newfoundland & Labrador, and they're represented by either geopolitical regions (BC) or numbered subdivisions (NL). The province I live in has many different divisions, some of which are named counties, some of which are named Municipal Districts, and some which are First Nations ("indian" reserves), Improvement Districts, Métis Settlements, Regional Municipalities, and Special Areas. But in terms of the RRDB, they're all considered "counties". And all the provinces in the RRDB have the divisions set up, though still named "counties".

There are some mapping products that offer the intraprovincial boundaries but I don't know if Lindsay's provider has ever gotten around to implementing it. It would be nice to see us get the same kind of granularity in our provincial maps as the US gets in its state maps.

Since we're talking about it, it's always been funny to me that the map shows Nova Scotia's mainland divided into two islands, with ocean between, and also appears to be disconnected from New Brunswick :)

I only see one state since the change. If I select the state and county from the drop down I see one county and some city names. I am using Win 7 32bit with IE 10. If I use Chrome I can see all the states.

THANK YOU!! Good riddance to Flash, now if other websites would follow Flash can be one of those things that is history....

Database no longer works for me. I just see one state now, and it is not clickable. It worked properly before the change.

Windows 7, IE 10.

I haven't had any issues with any other websites.

It works for me. Did you try using something other the IE? IE has been known to have issues even with html like the map. Looking at other posts IE10 seems to have issues. Try Chrome.

It works with Windows 7, IE 11. Maybe upgrading from IE 10 to IE 11 would solve the problem.

Hope this helps,

Great news folks,

I'm testing the HTML5 replacement of our Flash based clickable maps - right now they are in Beta across all the RadioReference database pages.

This means the long national nightmare of Flash is coming to an end on RadioReference!

Feedback, questions, concerns? Let me hear from you.

Working so well on all my Mac platforms that I've finally felt free to nuke Flash from my computers, once and for all, forevermore, amen.

And haven't missed it a bit.

By retaining IE 10, I don't have to deal with the ridiculous "Tabs" (pages opening in "tabs" instead of new windows) IE 10 allows you to disable this, to see each new page in it's own window, IE 11 does not allow you to disable this, tabbed browsing is standard.

So basically, for me to see the database here now, I am supposed to update my windows to IE11?

Is this the final answer?

Only the owner, admins, and mods can say what the "final" answer is. I am not trying to suggest a "final" answer, just maybe one solution. There are likely many other solutions, too.

By retaining IE 10, I don't have to deal with the ridiculous "Tabs" (pages opening in "tabs" instead of new windows) IE 10 allows you to disable this, to see each new page in it's own window, IE 11 does not allow you to disable this, tabbed browsing is standard.

If you have access to IE 11 elsewhere, here are some steps you can try, if you haven't already (before installing it on your machine), to see if IE 11 can be configured to use separate windows (instead of tabs) as you prefer.

To change the default settings from "tabs" to "separate windows" in IE 11:
  • On the keyboard, press and hold the " ALT " key and tap the " T " key, to see the "Tools" menu; release both keys. (This works even if the menu-bar is hidden.)
  • Choose "Internet Options"; this will pop-up a dialog-box.
    • In the "Internet Options" pop-up box, select the "General" tab. (It might be selected already.)
      • In the "General" tab, click the "Tabs" button; this will pop-up another dialog box.
        • In the "Tabbed Browsing Settings" box, look in the bottom half of the box.
          • In the section "When a pop-up is encountered", choose the bullet for "Always open pop-ups in a new window".
          • In the section "Open links from other proograms in:", choose the bullet for "A new window".
        • Click "OK" to continue; this closes the "Tabbed Browsing Settings" box
    • Click "OK" to continue. this closes the "Internet Options" pop-up box.
  • Even though it might not be strictly necessary, you might want to close and restart the browser to make sure all new settings are being used.

Hope this helps,

Ditto. Flash is officially gone from all my stuff too. I'm still not running a Mac though :)

I'm not missing Flash one bit,nor am I missing the ever-present potential for exploitation of my machines due to Flash vulnerabilities.

Thankfully my HTML5/Flash issue is resolved so now I can see the maps in HTML5 again.

Well the only state I see is Washington. Bright yellow for sure.
I have to go to the state and retrieve it and then I may get something usually just the city/county names but no map.

Flash worked but apparently a lot of people don't like it. I don't mind changes but there seems to be a bit of discussion on it.

Under either Windows 7 or Windows 10 (just upgraded) and under up to date IE, Firefox, Chrome, or Edge browsers I get the please wait spinning wheel and it never completes. Also does this to me on another Windows 7 computer. Is there something I need to enable or set up to use HTML 5? Using the link to the old flash site works.
