• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Apologies in advance if this is a long winded post but I’m looking to get clarification on some things as I’m not a professional upfitter. I have a 2019 Ford Police Interceptor Utility and I installed a XPR5550, however it’s not hooked up to power yet. I plan on installing a APX8500 at a later date. The vehicle has a 6 way power feed harness with 3 hot wires rated for 34 amps each and 3 ground wires.
What I would like to know is, can I wire both radios to 1 hot wire or should I dedicate 1 hot wire per radio? According to the APX cut sheet, the transmit current @ 100 watts is 30 amps and the receive current is 3.2 amps. For the XPR the transmit current is 40 watts @ 14.5 amps and receive at 2 amps. Just want to make sure I do it right cause I’d rather my car not burn to the ground lol.

I'd probably have one radio on Hot 1 and the other radio on Hot 2. While unlikely, if they are transmitting at the same time, they will draw more amperage than Hot X is rated.

I am curious what gauge wires they FORD, used for power and ground. Do the grounds terminate in the cabin close to the harness or do they come through the firewall?

Here how I use the factory upfitter plugs for the explorer. I tie all the constant postives on the 6 pin into a blue sea fuse panel. The one i use has a negative side also so I will connect those over there. This panel has hot all the time. Then from there I connect radios and other console devices etc. Usually I install a siren with just the head in console and brick in the trunk so it will have its own heavy power wire etc.

On the other harness is a lower current switched power which I sometimes use to tie into a charge guard to switch on /off.

So just to clarify, you tied all 3 hot wires to the positive lug and the 3 ground wires to the negative lug on the blue seas system fuse panel?
