2025 VHF Low Band Logs

Been dead here for a few weeks now. I have been busy in the garden so not really time to listen. No CHP at all. I do hear the Costa Rica taxis occasionally. I did hear HB9HD repeater this morning around 11:30am. Probably the best reception of it to date. Back on the 8th I did get a few hours of 41.550 - 151.4 at 10:30pm. Not sure where it was from, but definitely helos in a training exercise.

Probably the concrete place. The Madigan thing, based off their website, looks to be some kid who may or may not have a repeater at his house. Definitely wasn't the type of traffic I was hearing.

Yesterday - 29 April 2025 - I had similar experiences. The band was really noisy, although that could have been local to me. WWV on 25.000 MHz AM was coming in nicely though. 11m was not as busy as I expected, I did hear the usual taxi ladies on 25.695 MHz AM, 26.035 MHz AM, 26.185 MHz AM, 26.765 MHz AM and a handful of others. I did not hear Fort Hood on 30.450 nor the above-30 MHz Latin American taxis, however, I put that up to the high noise level (again, I think that was local to me, it sounded like electrical generator noise, very broadband, all of 11m/10m (25 MHz + up through the FM BCB and VHF aircraft band even 2m and VHF high band, roughly 20-250 MHz).

Here in the UK I use 70 MHz 4 Meter band, there is also the magic band 6 meters but I like 4 meters more... this is the UK's low band VHF.

I find with 70MHz I wont hear people within 2 or 3 miles of me, they can hear me but I can't hear them but I had no problems making contacts much further away and I could hear them fine. Maybe its just where I live causing that issue.

Low band for me is very hit & miss but an interesting band full of surprises.

I see not much has been happening for anyone. It's been completely dead save for regional CHP stuff the last several days.

So much for months on end of endless 33MHz logs. Here's hoping it comes back!

There has been some skip coming through on 26 - 28 MHz but it's sporadic and fades out quickly. The lower HF bands have also been in rough shape.

As I've said before, you are lucky @d119 to have the CHP to fall back on!
