• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

How would you run a larger gauge power/ground cable(s) direct to your battery for a Galaxy? The only cables I can find are 12, 16 , or 20 gauge cables like the ones with cig adaptors on them...When you run something larger than a 12 gauge such as 10 or 8 ga. how does it connect to the plug for the radio? Isnt a standard 3 pin plug pretty much a standard 3 pin plug? It would seem that if you run something larger you wouldnt be able to utilize the plug...Surely those little power plugs that handle 20 ga wire wont be able to coincide with a 10 ga or larger wire hookup...What am I missing here? Can anyone help for im wanting to run a decent size straight to my battery for my tuned Galaxy radio...

Hope this made sense..

As always thanks for any help!

I have an 8 gauge wire running from the battery to cab and connected the standard / factory Galaxy wire to it. It works fine and the 8 gauge also provides power to a rechargeable light. Is that what you are wanting to know?

Oh good grief, 16AWG is more than enough for a CB. Just use something with oil/fuel resistant insulation, wire intended for automotive/marine wiring is what you need.

Your galaxy cb doesn't draw that much current that you need anything more than 16 or 20awg.

They took it easy on you. They tend to beat up on "CBers" who use a word like "tuned" with a question related to CBs. I'm actually shocked someone didn't suggest it was illegal. :D
But yeah I don't think you would need that much for a stock CB or even a "tuned" one. I used 8 gauge because I have it connected to a small after market fuse panel with the intention to run more accessories off of it. Also at the time I got the wire for a good price. :)

It's not illegal just to supply power to it. :D
...just to transmit on it!

A warning after the fact is as useless as locking the barn door after the horse was stolen.

Now what accessory might need 40A to operate? <evil grin with horns>

I think the fuse panel is only rated for 20 Amps if I remember correctly. :)
Like I said the wire was very reasonably priced at the moment and had an inline fuse on it all ready.
