396t step size

when set to "auto" what is the actual step size on the 396t custom searches? I assume its a set number, similar to how nfm is the "auto" setting for modulation. Also, if what i want to search has a step size of 30, then what should the step size be set for? 15? (30 is not an option with the software)

While searching, press Hold and then spin the knob. You'll have your answer.
