Well, I think the Keypad on my 396XT might be dead. Basically, the keypad is totally locked up. Toggling KEY SAFE MODE and/or Keypad lock does nothing whatsoever. Notably, the power button works fine. Also, I double-checked my freescan settings and I didn't check "Enable System Protect".
When I try a re-set from the Keypad (2+9+hold during power-on), it displays "loading test data, please wait". Then it loads five "test" systems. (I can't find any documentation about the 396XT "test systems") In any event, after the tests systems load the keypad still doesn't work (other than the power button). Is it possible for every button on the Keypad to break, except the power button?
Also, when I erase the memory in Freescan, it still powers-up with a Startup Key of 5, even when there are no systems. Does this sound like a hardware problem that only Uniden can fix??
