I have trouble receiving the digital O.P.P. from time to time, it comes in garbled and breaks up like the audio is too loud. Also get open mics like birdies on standard 800 trunking with no signal strength for the Region Of Peel, Do i have to tweek the P25 settings for the digital?

Thanks!

Hi. What antenna are you using? The stock antenna that comes with Unidens is very average to say the least especially on Fleetnet. I have had some difficulties receiving both the Peel system and the Brittania fleetnet tower on the east side of Mississauga and the west, both off Derry Road.

When you hear the OPP problems, it is a loud mess of garbled noise?, and do you see the word ENC on the bottom of your screen. Those are encrypted channels.

Thanks for a fast reply! Just the stock one, the birdies seem to go away on Peel if i use a mobile antenna on the car. Its the normal digital encoding not the encrypted stuff that is breaking up

i'll remember we have an Ontario forum

P25 is very picky, it wants a really strong and clear signal to decode. If you're getting 2-3 bars steady you'll get that un-decodable garble with a few words coming through. 4-5 bars steady and you should get good listening. Same with GO Transit.

Also, if this is your first scanner and new to this hobby, you may have also noticed the volume difference between OPP (digital) and EMS (analog). This is normal and not a problem with your radio.

Thanks for the info, this is my first digital scanner, i go as far back a Radio Shack Patrolman 4 channel xtal hand held. I'm still having birdie like troubles on M.O.H. and Peel trunking (yes very quite compared to digital) after someone ends a conversation, all the settings are stock never touched. And today i was getting encrypted transmissions on Caledon talk group!
