• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Retevis Retevis NR40 Encryption not working

I recently bought a pair of Retevis NR40's. I programmed them and set up digital channels, with keys and turned on AES encryption. I made sure everything is synchronized between both radios - frequencies, encryption keys, settings. I made sure the firmware is current and the same between both radios.

When I am on a digital channel with AES ENCRYPTION, I get no voice. About 25% of the time the receiving radio gets a green light and the signal strength indicator comes on, so I know it's communicating on some level, but always no voice.

Is anyone else having these issues? Dies encryption work for ANYONE? since I've tried everything as far as troubleshooting goes (by Retevis) I'm having replacements sent. I'm just worried that the new radios will have the sane issue.

Thank you!

Purchase an RTL SDR key and use the DSD-FME software with your AES key.
If AES is configured correctly, you can hear your voice through the DSD-FME software. Do the test with your two radios.

So suppose I hear it after plugging in the encryption key to the SDR - what dues that tell me?

What does it tell me if I don't - where does the fault lie?

I hope these tests are being done on commercial frequencies with a business band license. Encryption on amateur radio is illegal.

use the following command :

dsd-fme.exe -Z 2>log.txt

and you'll post the log.txt file here
and we'll tell you if AES is working properly.

Software defined radio equipment alone isn't going to contend with that encryption - keys or no.

That isn't germain.

When you go to the doctor and say, 'I'm sick, nothing is going right, help me.'

The doctor then says, 'Okay, we'll start by taking a blood test to see where the problem is.'

Then you tell him, 'No, doctor, a blood test won't help me.
List all the possible illnesses imaginable and tell me how to treat each one.'

What do you think the doctor would respond?

It's not a whim, it's the basics. When you troubleshoot RJ45 network cables, you also have a special device to find the problem:
