Most of the time, I only see the 5 band going up a little bit. No matter where I am at. I was just at Ross and saw the security guard talking on his little walkie talkie and nothing popped up. I was maybe 30 feet away. My cheap baofeng thing I calculated line of sight was 75 feet. So what's going on? Do I need to mess with some settings? I've been driving around all day for work and nothing pops up at all. Even in shopping centers. Screenshot_20241120_153525_Gallery.jpg

Have you tried sitting still and monitoring, rather than driving around? Were you inside or outside the shopping center, and how long did you monitor, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, an hour? In addition to what @dmfalk said above, movement, concrete and steel also decrease the ability to use close call.

it looks like ATT on the screen and SCR.
that would mean attenuation and broadcast screen are running.
attenuation means it cuts the signal to 1/100th of the original.
and with REP (repeater find) running and if it hits on a 467 freq, it will then look in the 462 range for the repeater.
it would help to turn these things off.

Close Call doesn't work well with digital systems (especially DMR and NXDN), because they're not continuous carriers.
Close Call works fine on DMR and NXDN systems. Please note Close Call will not capture a DMR handheld/mobile. A real antenna (e.g., mobile antenna) will greatly increase the chances of Close Call finding a transmission.

Please give me a link to an antenna I can buy now that is in stock. And you mean one for the radio not one for the car? I wouldn't mind either. I'm in my company vehicle 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I have yet to have a vehicle check. They definitely wouldn't notice. Hehe.

I keep seeing an endless rabbit hole when I search for antennas, everyone recommends something different and it overwhelms me. Just send me a link and I will buy it!

I'd go for both, as both are in wide use. (Actually, each gives you several related systems, so having both DMR and NXDN, along with P25, gives you quite a wide range of digital modes, both conventional and trunked!)

There are numerous good antennas for your scanner, such as those made by Remtronics and Comet. Make sure it's an SMA connector. (I use a Comet W100RX.) You'll be amazed by the difference from the supplied stock antenna! (A very common misconception of Uniden scanners is the poor performance, without taking into account that the stock antennas that come with them are often the main culprits.....)
