Nope, I mean keep it formal..

That was the bigest problem I had after getting my license: to stop sounding like the PD dispatcher I used to be. Unless you are involved in a formal net situation, you get to relax and talk like a normal person. ;) Actually kinda nice!

Of course, as numerous posts on here show, the "formal" users don't remain formal all the time either. :D

No, no truck wash or prostitutes advertising their "services", no smokey reports, no echo mikes, little to no cursing, no "handles", no 10-codes, etc.

No I don't think ham is anything like CB.
There's just the occasional chat about running over cow-patties with lawn mowers. :D

IMHO, ham radio is neat because there's so many things out there to do: Skywarn, repeater clubs, ARES/RACES, DX, etc. There's something for everyone!

OK, so you can't pass the exam, but you can pass judgment on those that have. Message received.

I'm a ham as well as an EMT, and it is really NOTHING like CB here in Norman. I got into ham originally to do SKYWARN and loved it. I just passed my Extra Class exam a few months ago and will hopefully (if I can find somewhere to throw up an antenna again) be back on HF soon. My interests are emergency communications and digital modes. I sure as HELL don't find those on the CB's :). the long winded rag chewers can be annoying sometimes, yes.... but when they get annoying, I take that frequency out of my scan list for a little while until they're gone... :)
