Three days ago, we started hearing robotrx of the time on 462.575 (GMRS16) in response to a DTMF prompt as well as on the hour. No station ID, and it went on 24x7 so I guessed it was misconfiguration. I poked around a bit on FB GMRS groups and found the answer. Seems many GMRS repeaters use Raspberry P4, which defaults to certain parameters after a hard shutdown (power outage, no UPS, smh).
The admin of one group was able to contact the repeater owner and get the time call turned off. We monitor that freq for some local elderly with HTs who may need help. I'm a fireman and get there faster than EMS because of the distance to FD/EMS.
This is rural Burnet Co. I've been dismayed to monitor GMRS traffic on the repeater. Seems GMRS is devolving into CB v2.0, with breaker breaker lingo etc, poor air discipline. Oh well, one more reason to finish up my Expert and take the test. I talked my wife into starting her Tech study. Good News.
