Damn, I think I finally settled on the 536 using my stack of amazon gift cards and I find this out. :( What a pain.

The government is unpredictable, at best, but it could be a legitimate inquiry,

We have all this speculation so please let us know the outcome.

Interesting, I just got this in an email from Ebay regarding a 996XT that I have coming to Canada:
"We are writing to inform you that your GSP order is currently under review for potential prohibited items and may experience a delay of 3-5 business days. "

I've never seen anything like that before. Wonder if it's in any way related to the Amazon thing.

That happens all the time with eBay and their Global Shipping Program. It's actually handled by Pitney Bowes and since they are also a major contractor to the US government, they are very careful about shipping any kind of "technology" out of the country and/or importing it into certain other countries. Usually delays like that can be avoided if the seller includes a lot of info in the ebay listing, but some sellers don't bother to fill out stuff like the UPC or country of origin, etc., and that can trigger a delay in GSP.

I have noticed several 536s on eBay listed for 4-figure prices.

Sounds like some sort of scam. Has anyone asked Amazon if they really sent the emails?

Interesting, thanks. First time I've encountered it.

There is no safety issue with the product. I recommend you purchase from a reputable scanner reseller like Scanner Master, Bearcat Warehouse, Ham Radio Outlet, Universal Radio, etc. At places like these you get great followup support you will never be able to get from Amazon.

Whelp, I didn't feel like waiting for Amazon to get this sorted out. H/T for the list of trusted vendors, I ordered mine from Ham Radio Outlet. Good news is they have no presence in MA, so no sales tax. There's $30 saved towards and upgrade. :D

Wow! $2451.60 for a 536HP! But is does have free shipping! I guess I got burned with my recent ebay purchase of a 536HP for $489. Live and learn. ;)

I started looking at the beginning of this week, right around my join date. There is nothing out there for used sales and a bunch of 3rd part sellers are up for way more than retail on both Amazon and EBay. Something doesn't smell right.

It is the responsibility of the buyer to research and buy wisely. This is a problem not just with scanners. As they say a sucker is born every minute.

Give it time the swimsuit lingerie show casing will feature a scanner down road. They have already hit the auto end, transceivers, electronics.

This is the private sector, which bought and paid for the government years ago.

They want UL paperwork for the scanner. The scanner neither has nor requires UL, as it is a low-power DC device. (The AC adapter has UL and is clearly marked with such, including the file number.) We are attempting to educate them.

You might mention that 99% of the walkie talkies they sell have no (or improper) FCC certification.

It could be competitors trying to scare off sellers.

Whatever was going on seems to be resolved. Three different vendors offering the scanner. No bargains, though.

Lack of FCC certification won't burn your house down, though.

In order to reinstate this ASIN and to support the investigation, the system requires a proof. Without which the ASIN will remain inactive.

Kindly provide us with a valid documentation demonstrating that the product as a whole has been tested by an ISO certified laboratory to the appropriate UL standard. You can consult with the lab to determine the appropriate UL standard.

So, how can we prove that the product has been tested by an ISO certified lab to the appropriate UL standard when the lab determined that there is no appropriate UL standard? Eye Dee Ten Tee error.

LOL. Unbelievable. With the amount of knockoff crap you can buy there. I'm happy to say my shiny new 536 is on my table waiting for me to get home and open it.

Same would apply to the plethora of security cameras, either 12v or POE. Probably thousands of other items, like an Amazon Echo. POwer via USB.
