Hello Jake this should help.
1 Start with your USB Cable unplugged from the Computer and Scanner.
2 Plug the USB Cable into the Computer.
3 Plug the USB Cable into the 536
4 When the 536 beeps push y Yes button on the scanner.
5 Start Sentinel
6 Pick in Sentinel SCANNER and either Read from Scanner or Write to Scanner.

Thank you for helping me out. I feel a lot better now. I don’t know why people are making fun of me. I have a disability.

I'm partially blind, so I know disability.

The thing is, you weren't too clear on your problem with connecting your scanner to the computer, and didn't separate what setting you should have the squelch set to from your scanner connection problem. Sometimes, it's better to explain your problem than just saying "help". Hopefully, my above post helps you to get Sentinel up and running, as this is the most common problem people seem to have with Sentinel.

Other than that, if you're interested in what you can do with your scanner, or have any problems, first try to search the forum, as the problem may have already been answered, and if that fails, then ask! Most of us are glad to help, if we can.

Jake, if you're still having a problem with the North Carolina Viper system, you might be having the dreaded simulcast problem. If that is the case, your most expensive option is to move up to the SDS series scanners, but that involves big dollars. One easy thing that is not guaranteed to work but could help is to make your scanner not as sensitive. You can try things like shortening your antenna if you're using the back of scanner antenna or moving the antenna farther from a window and inside if you're using an inside antenna. That may help greatly if it is a simulcast issue, BUT, your reception will suffer on other things that you are listening to due to the decreased reception.
