Ridgy, on 6679 it's Auckland's turn at 20 and 50 , Honolulu at 25 and 55, Hong Kong at 15 and 45 and Tokyo at 10 and 40, all minutes past the hour. Good propo condition indicators. Same times on 8828kHz.

66xx kHz frequencies booming in here (Denver) tonight.

SF Radio sounds clearer than KDEN VHF High right now!

Well at 0801 UTC I heard Honolulu radio for the first time, signal was not very strong but could understand what was being said. I think my new antenna setup is going to work great!

Ridgy, I don't have a clue what they are using now. 35 years ago when I worked for the CAA workshops in Wellington we had just crystalled up all new Redifon transmitters and receivers which were all single channel - the transmitters from memory were about 400watts PEP, (100watts AM carrier which wasn't used of course!) but they would be well obsolete. Probably all done from one box on the desk now!

I'm able to pick up both Auckland Volmet and Honolulu Volmet on 6679 USB quite regularly (EVERY morning) from my QTH here in NW Georgia USA. Using a PAR EF-SWL antenna mounted in the attic as a longwire connected to a vintage Collins R-390A receiver.

These transmissions are kind of an 'old friend' of mine...I've grown quite accustomed to listening to them in the morning!
