I think the 800 and 18 had slightly more volume. I also noticed I had to turn it up a bit higher.

Unfortunately yes. My WS1080 I always have to have it at 25-MAX just to hear the Conventional channels. The Ab control in the EZScan program doesn't do crap and the AGC is nothing like my old Pro96 which has superior volume/sound on all channels. That's just a trait of these new Ipod type scanners with microSD cards. A base unit may solve some of this. I myself have the headphone output into an old Scanner-Master Sports Sync radio that has an aux input. It works great. Trouble is when a TDMA fire dispatch comes on it blows you out of your socks. At least I can hear those in my car though. :0)

The PSR 800 and 18 are in fact louder. Different components I guess. In the car I would just plug it into the stereo system, problem solved.

I have a PSR-800 and a 668. If I have been increasing the volume on the 668 its only by a couple notches. Usually run both radios around 20...25 if I am in the car. Both of these radios are very similar in volume.

I guess my ears are way better than I thought, the highest I've ever run the volume is about 20, and that's in my loud exhausted car. At 18, one of the local hospitals will make me jump when they talk to a rescue squad. None of the other hospitals has the punch it has. They are all distorted and it sounds like the nurse or doctor is on an old CB with a power mike and a bad linear. I wish they would fix the damn thing.

I think it must depend on the system one monitors. I have mine set between 15 and 20, sometimes a bit lower than 15, never above 20.
