• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am not asking for software here as I have all the necessary tools.

Today I went to create a codeplug to play around with the 7/800 features of the XTS5000 I'm planning on getting soon. I went to enter the 769/799 band plan frequencies (NAC types), and got bonked with the red square of errors!

So I went into hex-edit (XVI32 program) and tried to find the upper end of 851.06250 (minus the decimal), and the lower end of 806 something, and got nothing!

Does anyone know where the 7/800 band splits are located in CPS 20?

Regards,

-Frank C.

Why would you need to hexedit anything?

The XTS5000 already covers everything you need in the 700/800MHz bands.

If you're getting red squares, you're doing something else wrong.

The band plan and NAC are not in any way related. NAC are 3 digit hex codes.

Disregard - my sample codeplug was not set up for the right trunk flavor.

Click on View>Invalid Fields to get descriptive information on why a "red square" is present.

Jay, due to the frequency being invalid. The radio I'm planning on getting has the right model number to it, so I know that's not an issue.

Seems as if CPS 20 doesn't cover the 769/799 band plan naturally, even though it should...The only thing I have done is entered in the frequency, example is CHP Amber in the Golden Gate Division 769.44375 / 799.44375 NAC DB3. Red square of invalid frequency appears.

The better question- since there are so many spots you could be entering frequencies. . . . are u entering these under the zone/channel screen where u would normally enter a conventional channel?

Or are u entering these 700 MHz freqs elsewhere.

If elsewhere such as under trunking- the band plan information and set # needs entered in on the trunking tab as well as the band plan referenced when u enter the freq in for control channel.

I won't be near a computer until later tonight where I can pull up software and a codeplug to detail further. . . . .

Try entering 769.0125.

Tony, I'm under Zone/Channel screen. This, thankfully, isn't my first XTS to program, just the first 7/800 split radio...

According to the RRDB that is a conventional frequency not a trunked frequency, so "band plan" shouldn't be in the equation at all.

In order to set up a conventional ASTRO frequency, you have to have an ASTRO system created and a Conventional Personality created.

After you've done that, when you enter the conventional frequency in the Zone/Channel Assignment page, the frequency will show up as "invalid" if you have Tx Opt Transmit Dev set to 5.0 kHz (the default). Change it to 2.5 kHz.

UPDATE - DOH!

A total Homer Simpson moment! I totally spaced and forget to set the narrow/wide requirement to 2.5Khz! Problem solved...I feel like such an idiot!

Thanks again everyone!
