Mobile or portable? If it was a mobile, I wouldn't think that he could monitor SRRCS while outside of the car on his VHF handheld. On the contrary, the new extender would give him this capability, right?

I'm talking about portables/handheld. CHP has a batch of SRRCS portables issued to them for their use. A few CHP patrol units and their SACCATS team carry them. I don't know how many CHP vehicles actually have SRRCS radios installed, if any.

Okay, so the officer is no longer able to monitor SRRCS while outside of the car because now he has to carry the new 700 MHz portable instead of the SRRCS portable. That makes sense.

A few CHP officers in the Sacramento area have had the EF Johnson radios programmed with SRRCS talk groups for a while.

Now that they use the EF Johnson for the VRS they no longer use it for the SRRCS while out of the car. When they are in the car they can get CHP traffic over the car radio and still use the EF Johnson for the SRRCS.

they my still have the srrcs in the efj. radios. just in a new zone on the radio. and they may not know how to set up the scanne list for the vsr zone. and srrcs zone. and the radio guys might not want to spend a long time working on it. it talks a long time to set it up in the radio cps.

Can an officer scan conventional and trunked channels at the same time on his duty radio? I expect he would have to put the extender on priority to avoid missing his own dispatch traffic, but I think it would be annoying to have the SRRCS audio cut out every couple of seconds while the radio checks the extender for traffic (although I guess chippies are used to the chopping sound of the old extender). And they could still miss the beginning of dispatch transmissions intended for them.

I know officers who use their primary radio to monitor other agencies, but they only do it on trunked systems where the preemtive priority keeps them from missing their own dispatch traffic. If they want to monitor agencies that do not use the same trunked system, they do so with a scanner.

yes you can scanne conventional and trunked talkgrups at the same time like i said it is just a lot of work in the cps to set that up. and you can not set up priority scan in a radio that will scan conventional and trunking talkgrups, weill in the motorola cps you cant.

From what you are saying, it sounds like a CHP officer could not scan both the extender and the SRRCS on the same radio because there is no way to set up the extender as a priority channel. He would miss his own traffic. Is that correct?

I don't get the impression you've programmed EF Johnson P25 portables before. What Motorola does and what EF does are two completely different things.

North and South Sac CHP 700 radios will have Sac City and County TG's in them. Several zones worth.

Also, the "CHP700" channels will have the possibility for encryption if the radio user so chooses (and a key is loaded).

Alright, so the VRS channels are assigned by color, not by office. That's what I suspected originally.

Today, for the first time from my place, I heard the TURQUOISE being simulcasted on what I have listed as "WOODLAND RPTR 8 769.4687".

Since I live in the Turquoise, I can hear them loud and clear on anolog, but on P25 I was only getting 1-2 bars with appx. .25second delay on the digital side.
Ill try to post a recording or video later.
