Did a 24-hour scan of a 700 band in Pitt County North Carolina. Got a hit on 773.1725 NAC 4B1 RID 1472503. Very strong signal. Traffic was too short to try to identify who it was. I searched around I don't see anyone in my area using this frequency? Anybody have any ideas?

Last night I heard some traffic on 773.1725 but it was less than a sentence of voice I couldn't identify. Getting hits this morning no voice no radio ID on 773.171875 NAC 4B1. I'm using whistler WS 1080 and have a discone antenna up about 40 ft

I noticed that myself but I'm looking at the screen right now for the playback and that's exactly the frequency that it's showing on the Ws 1080?

It is the Pitt County system. This is not skip or band opening.
It is just that either the scanner was off frequency or they have added frequencies that are not listed in the database.

Yeah it makes sense to me that it is that system but I just wasn't sure my knowledge of radio is not extensive so I thought I'd throw it out to you guys. Thanks for your help I appreciate it

Hey you have discovered one of the most enjoyable parts of the hobby: hunting down & IDing found monitoring targets. Never know what you are going to come across!

The freqs op is listing are not on the Pitt County trs license. Is there another license? There are freqs listed in the db that are not on the listed license.

@peten1vak Program the Pitt system into your ws and see what happens. If its programmed in as a trunked system as opposed to a search, it should work properly. See if those 2 freqs, 773.1725 and 773.171875 still pop up. Also take note of rid's and see if they match up to what you have seen. All the known tg's on Pitt trs are 37xxx.

If you still get hits on those 2 freqs in your search, and the tg's are anything lower than 37xxx, then it was a band opening and the system from PA.

You can check for valid 700 MHz frequencies here. Trunked systems should all be on the General Use or State License channels.

Set the scanner to 6.25 kHz steps when searching the 769-775 MHz band or try lower/upper limits of 769.00625 and 774.99375 with 12.5 kHz steps and see if it uses the right spacing.

Some Whistler and GRE products are prone to images.

Also some/due to age have become desensitive in certain bands.
My original GRE600 is deaf on all but VHF/UHF Feds and when close to a 700/800/900 site it is 6.25/12.5 off freq.

And are you (ND5Y) know but for others, there will be STATEWIDE licenses that do not list each site/freq as they are a Blanket/Market
for the State to use as they wish

When my WS10xx/TRX-1 scanners are in search mode the frequencies often stop off frequency, I believe it was .000625. This was discussed back in 2019 post.
