When I tried it out I didn’t need to be in RMT for it to connect to the 780.

its a windows 10 PC I'm usinf a usb to serial cable ive matched speeds so on its a program I loved like 25 years ago ? just trying to update two 780's programs

There have been updates to Win10 that disables certain usb-serial chips, some sort of fake China chip. But I guess if the adapter cable can be seen in the hardware control panel and using a com port number then it should be ok. Some older programs, perhaps including Andrews, doesn't like a com port with higher numbers, force it between 1-4.

sadly my "pro scan 30-day trial" (cookie) got used up years ago otherwise I'd try that but still would have the cable issue, I always loved Andy's program but I'm a spread sheet junkie with frequency lists.

It could be the adapter, but my most absolute best/stable USB to serial adapter is a giveaway I got like 15 years ago.

Did you check device manager like I asked? We can try some troubleshooting with your current adapter so we can possibly rule that out.

BUMMERS PEOPLE I'm open to suggestions I did get a new cable but i still cannot get the program to "see the scanner very strange whatever usb port I plug into the software then sees the port as busy.

What port does the adapter show in device manager?

Kevin did all that seems strange my PC has High numbers 9.11.15 for the front usbs I see Andy's only likes Low so I'm going to try the one on the back ofmy computer

Just force it to com3 or 4 in the hardware device manager in windows. Windows always tries to use a free com port number that hasn't got any previous drivers installed to it, but it's ok to change a 9 to a 3 even when it's says it's used or busy. But what could happen are that a device that have been using com3 now instead gets a higher number but you can then easily force that back to 3 if you like.

how many COM ports do you currently show?

two currently comm port 1 (correct i think) and com port 3 shows as intel active management technology.

so when i plug in my usb to serial it said comm 7 changed the point on andy's to comm 7 saved it opened back up went to transmit and it says comm 7 is busy

Change the COM port assignment for the usb-to-serial device to something 1-4.
