Hello, I was on the uniden website and noticed they had a ver3.25 firmware update for the 796D. I looked in the manual to see if I could check the firmware that the scanner now has but it does not say where to look for it on the scanner. hope someone can help.

Thank You

To verify firmware version, turn off scanner, press and hold down the 2, 9, and 4 buttons while turning the scanner on. Unit will show load test data, then v3.2? that will be the firmware version.

Thank you very much, it worked well, the reason I wanted to ck the firmware is i have a small problem with the 796D, once every couple days I get a loud stactic noise and a error message for a Apco25 error. I would turn off the scanner and turn it back on then its ok. this is a new radio and not sure if i shuld return it or if its something i could do.

Thank You for your response jason

Have you tried taking the digital card and reseating it? Might have shifted during shipment before you purchased it.

Yes I tried that, I went to the website where I bought the scanner and they had a more complete manual than uniden has, I had the squelch turned just to the point where I could not hear the noise, but the manual says half way was better so I tried it for awhile and it seemed to work ok. I only recieved the error once thats when I pulled the card out and reset it. these other times no error but when a transmission comes in (only once in awhile) I get static, I hit the search button and it goes away. cant seem to track it down to a TG or freq, its random.

Gator,

With my two most recently purchased 796 units, I get the same card error every few days - quickly resolved by turning the radio off & back on. Haven't once had this issue w/ another two 796's or my 296. All are updated w/ latest firmware. The radios are always stationary, so poor card-radio contacts would seem unlikely. This has persisted for 6+ months w/out any progression, so I have not bothered contacting Uniden.

Digital card reset for Apco 25

After checking the firmware of 2X796 and a 296 you will get static(on Apco25systems). The pushing of buttons 2,4,9 does show firmware but will also show in the menu that your digital card is on when infact it needs to be reset. Reset from the menu only, turn it from on to off then turn it back on.

I had to do this on 3 scanners as well it will turn your key pad beep back on.

Yea, my 296 also did that for the first 6 months also...Now it really acts weird like sometimes it just bounces on certain freqs when in trunkin mode, I have to hit it a couple times and its fine...
I would really like to contact uniden and been wanting to, but its a year and some months old now...
Does anyone think that there is a glitch in these 296-796 radios before they came out...I know Uniden knows about this problem also, would they ever recall these radios ever....?????????
