Channel one. Punch in the frequency, press enter. Rotate the vfo knob to channel 2. Punch in the frequency, press enter ect... over and over all you want to punch in. It doesent get any better....

I don't know what kind of 796 you have, but mine doesn't work that way. Apparetnly you haven't done any hand programming lately, you should do it again, to remind yourself what a pain in the a** Uniden made it. I suppose they could have made it more complicated. I shudder to think who thought this process up....

Well I just sat here and pressed hold and rotated the vfo knob to an empty frequency. Punched in 144.7250, pressed enter, rotated the vfo knob to the next channel, punched in 145.7600, pressed enter. It programed both frequencys as conventional FM. Thats all it takes to program conventional frequencys and that was the question....

Emphasis added by me.

Interesting, somehow I must have missed that in my manual, but then again I have only had the 796 for a couple of weeks and ended up using software to do my programming. That couple of words I hilighted in the quote up there sure would have saved a bunch of typing and posting on both of our parts had it been in your original post. However, it is a shortcut that I now know about. Thanks.

No problem. I had to press hold because there were about 40 other frequencys in the bank and it was scanning. If nothing is in the bank it won't be scanning, just sitting there waiting.
