Did you "push" or hold down the referenced keys while turning on the scanner? While holding 2,4,9, turn on your scanner to chech your firmware status. Keep us posted.

bc796d firmware update

Yes I did push and holded down the reference keys (2,4,9) but the radio would not work.
So I took my radio back too where I bought it.
At first they were puzzled too I had to leave it and wait till they figured it out. They tried to download it on their computer but it still did not work.
When I got home there was a message on my phone that they were able to fix it.

It seems they had to redownload the firmware update on another computer don't know why the first computer wouldn't work either but however they did it and it now works

When I picked it up I checked my firmware status. It now saids version 3.25.
I don't think I will try downloading again as I sure do not want to ruin my scanner.
Thankyou for your response
But as it was in like it was in a sleep mode I don't think anything I could have done would have helped at that stage.

I am very happy that things worked out for you. We will probably never know what caused your problem, but anytime software is downloaded there exists the sad reality that some data may be lost. Just for your information, here are a few glitches that folks have reported after installing the firmware:
1) When the scanner is turned on, it may blink - go blank for a second or two, then return ready to go.
2) Where the card was set as "on"- all those settings were changed to "off" and had to be changed.

Otherwise, folks are pleased that the birdies they were hearing were now gone.

i'm glad to see that the uniden scanners are able to update the firmware. i tried this numerous times and still get the 3.21 version. can someone who downloaded this firmware update and have it working help us unfortunate ones that can't get this update. i tried 5 times and still get the firmware 3.21. I am a macintosh user using the family dell to download this firmware update. and yes taking the scanner back to kansas for a firmware update is out of the question so i guess if i don't upgrade the firmware i'll still be using the 780xlt. thaks in advance for any help jpm

If the Macintosh uses the same file posted on the Uniden site, I 'd be happy to send it to you. What operating system does your MAC use? This Software will run on Windows 95/98, ME, 2000 and XP.

Remember, too, unless you are experiencing problems the firmware alleges to correct you may not need the firmware update.

I'll need your e-mail address.

Are you still having a problem dowloading the file or a problem installing the downloaded file?
