I just got a great deal on a used 8600.My question is do i need to ship it out to Javiation to get it unblocked.Or is there a way to do it myself?.An honest reply would be great. And there is no way to pick up cell phones anyway.Just wanted a true radio not the FCC version. So please no geeks saying that is against the law to do.

It is not possible to have it unblocked without major surgery and a firmware change (and I'm not sure that they are available without the whole board). Unless you got a >really< good deal I doubt that it would be economic to ship it over here and have the work done.

Why must people push the issue!?

It is not economical, feasible or legal to do what you ask. Using a voice inversion card is not legal! Listening to what the fed considers cellular frequencies, weather there are no longer analog transmissions there or not, is not legal!

I find it offensive that you pop in here, call anyone wanting to obey the law a “geek”, ask us how to aid you in breaking the law & then continue to do so after being told nicely your being stupid.

BTW……

There is no such animal as a “Javiation” version. There are only two models, and possibly a couple firmware revisions, of the 8600 MK II. Blocked or Unblocked.

I have not tried this: According to the schematic in my service manual block or unblock is controlled by jumper JW1. On the schematic, it is just above IC-2. Schematic says: Block = 1M, unblock = JP. JW1 is show as a resistor on the diagram. It is connected to R26 and pin 39 on the microprocessor. Guessing that it will enable a control line when 1M resistor and disable when jumpered.

Making an accusation that I have pictures of underage girls on my computer is baseless as well as defamation of character, also against the law.

My suggesting your actions are stupid has been proven again.

Let's face it, unblocked communications equipment brings more money...PERIOD. Mr. ethical chastised him extensively for just asking the question. Big deal, he wants to unblock his radio. I think the feds have a lot more to do than be out looking for people who may or may not have an unb, locked scanner. By the way there's a million Spectrun Analyzers out there that cover all frequencies and demodulate as well. The whole law was stupid and eBay is loaded with radios that are wide open and no one cares. It's very strong encryption so no one's going to listen anyway. I hope the guy who gave him the technical answers he was looking for was right. I just bought an unblocked 8600 MK II myself. When and if I decide to sell it, it will bring more $$$ than if blocked. The ironic thing about the it all is that they didn't bother to blocdk cordless phone reception. It's still there and working just fine. Big brother forgot that.

Having listened to other peoples cellphone conversations before they all went digital here, I can tell you that after half an hour of listening to mundane cr@p, the novelty has worn off. Decoding pagers is about as exciting as watching paint dry, too.
