898T Info

I know I have posted this info before, but you think Uniden would update the manual for this unit. Like when you select control channel only which plan (pl1,pl2,pl3,pl4) should you use. I used the info on page 46 & 47 of the BC-8 manual for this. Also you can set the Stat-bit and the EOT. There are 8 items on this radio to go thru and I still dont know what #4 is but if you turn it off the radio will NOT trunk track a system. Any info or input is welcome.

The radio has 8 options. #4 just has on/off... If you turn it off it will not track any 800 systems.

Here are the options for the radio:
1 Prog F
2 Prog ID
3 Scnlist
4 Off On (no idea what it is for)
5 S-bit (pg 46 & 47 BCT-8 manual)
6 Eot (pg 46 & 47 BCT-8 manual)
7 CC Only Plan 1,2,3,4 (pg 46 & 47 BCT-8 manual)
8 ID Lout

You can get to each one of these options using the VFO knob. (make sure it is on and in the channel position) After you set one of them hit the data button to return to the options.

Have you tried using the demo software to see if there is any more info on the interface about #4?

No I did not try the software. Why didnt I think of that? Will look to see if I can find it on Uniden site.

Option 4 might be Trunk mode: on, off

The software was no help. Oh well the radio works great as is. One of the best radio's I have ever had. Just wanted to let ppl who own the 898T about these options since it is not written anywhere in the manual. Hope this helps someone out there.

I purchased the 898 a few years ago when they first came out, there was a revision in the manual but comparing the two manuals there both worthless...My early edition 898 at times will loose the PL-DCS in the search mode....When you turn on the 898 its suppose to come on in Trunk "Search" mode but mine comes on in "Trunk Scan" mode...I am not good with this computer and need the upgrade in firmware that came out in the second year of production in this model....Also sometimes the scanner looks like its scanning but if you look close its froze up on a trunk system trunking nothing in all cases you have to turn it "off" and back on and its back to normal...Other than these problems its a very nice scanner.....

Ron if past policy is any guide, the recent release of firmware for rebanding should bring the 898 up to date with any other changes done beforehand. It's worth a try, and it really isn't that hard. Probably easier than doing the 396, which requires the ESN registration, if it hasn't already been done. Here's the link off of the Uniden wiki...
