i have tried to obtain a more detailed owners manual for this scanner by e-mailing uniden direct. i was supposed to receive an answer to my e-mail in three business days. that has been over a week ago. i really dont think these people know that much about their product. i first called their so called "product support" dept. no injustice to these poor folks, but i had questions about programming they could not answer. this is a perfect indication of needing a more detailed manual.

Whats wrong with the manual that came with it? It tells you everything you need to know and is not that hard to follow.

You must be more wise than many of us,
the delivered manual is not all that clear or well-illustrated.
There is a slightly improved version available via PDF, I think I got it off the Yahoo group on this but they probably got it from Uniden.
The improved version seems to talk about how to connect to your PC which the original manual was very short on. There are also a few buttons on the 898 that are not described in the manual at all.

well i guess me being an amateur at the new trunk tracking radios has a lot to do with my deficiency in deciphering the mere 45 page manual delivered w/my unit. i really appreciate your constructive comment.

Don't misinterpret, the manual IS dificient.
Your observations are correct and wishes for clarity are on-target.
