I like the idea of being able to assign volume levels. Different agencies here have dramatic volume differences. AGC is a big help but not perfect.

Trouble with me now is that I went to all the trouble of installing the GPS module in the 996 and would look to put the older 996 in the house to upgrade from the 296 for feed. May have to look at installing the module "in the car" instead of "in the scanner"

Decisions, decisions.

Questions I have - hopefully someone can answer:

1. Remote head - will the BCD996XT work with the present RH96?
2. Priority Sampling - Can the time (ie: 1 second) be set like the BCD396XT?

Something else I'd like to see however it most likely is too late for this - I'm going to call it reverse GPS. In other words, a system would be locked out for a radius of 10 miles around a particular coordinate and unlocked, via GPS hookup, if you go outside the circle.

Appreciate your hard work UPMAN!!!!

So the 996XT and the 15XT are slated for release summer 2009? Is it too early to start a thread that says "UASD for the 996XT slated for release Spring 2010"?

1. It works with the BCD396XT and BC346XT, so I'll bet yes...:p
2. Same as above.

How about ProScan, FreeSCAN, ID Tracker II, and soon ARC XT?

According to Uniden a update for the RH96 will be released to make it compatible with the BC346XT and the BCD396XT, one would only assume that update will insure functionality with their base/mobile counterparts as thats what the RH was originally designed for.

I agree on the assumption that the remote head will work...but one never knows!!!

Maybe there is a new remote head lurking in the Uniden plans...make us spend more money!!!!!!

Thank you UPMAN. Now our assumptions are fact on the remote head capability!!

I'm going to assume that the priority sampling time can be changed on the BCD996XT just like the BCD396XT.

Yes. All features between the two models are substantially the same aside from:

* Form Factor (mobile vs. handheld)
* Backlight Dimmer
* Record-Out Jack
* Power options

im assuming the 996T will have the same backlight colours as the 396xt?

nah, this one will have only pastels. :lol:

i think upman already mention above that the feature set of the xt handhelds and the xt mobiles would be the same except for the extra features mobiles have (dimmer, rec out,ect)

Why won't scanner manufacturers design support for LTR Passport systems?

All the new features above seem like fluff.

From the excellent scanner article from Uniden (But I just want to listen to the Police. Why does this
have to be so complicated?):

"Note that there are several system types that cannot be monitored. These are identified as:
EDACS w/ESK
LTR Passport
OpenSky Standard
MPT1327
Tetra

These either use proprietary digital formats that are not licensable by manufacturers or
are not used enough to be economical for scanner manufacturers to develop solutions for."
