BCD396XT/BCD996XT: 996XT display screen issue

As a rule I leave my 996XT on running 24/7. This morning I noted its display screen window is unreadable (brand new behavior).
I have attached a pic.
I tried turning the radio off, letting it cool down and then turned it back on to no avail.
I'm considering doing a reset but before I do that I'm asking for any and all suggestions with thanks.

Looks like either a bad display driver or loose ribbon connector.
