Hello, will Bell fleetnet work on the VX-8DR? If so, does anyone have any instructions on how to set it up?

Fleetnet is a motorola type 2 trunk system. The vx-8 is a ham radio that is not capable of tracking the system. It is also not capable of decoding the CAI used on the digital talk groups. Yes you can monitor the analog transmissions but will have no way to effectively follow the conversations. You need a trunk tracking scanner to monitor the system, and a digital scanner to listen to the digital talk groups

agreed.. youll need a trunktracking radio that is capable of following VHF trunked system (all newer trunktracker 3's and most of the TT 2's ) to listen to the EMS MTO road crews.

if you want to listen to OPP on fleetnet youll need a DIGITAL radio (trunktracker 4).. or similar radioshack models.

Based on your experiences, would the BCT15X be a decent unit? It seems to be a reasonable price

it's an alright scanner but the only thing with the scanner is that it won't be able to track opp or mtoe because they are digital. i suggest mabey going to a uniden bcd396xt or uniden home patrol-1 for the uniden serries or gre psr 500,600 or 800 or even radio shack serries pro 106, 197, 18 all digital scanners and that way you will get all the talk groups on fleetnet they are all good scanners and if you shop around you could get one at a decent price.

If you have the $ it is best to go for a digital scanner. They arent all that much more expensive and it opens up doors in that it allows you to monitor everything today that is monitorable.

Do your homework, ask people in the GRE, Radio Shack and Uniden forums which one they like best. There are people in this forum that tcan get you scanners for very reasonable prices also.

I currently have a Home Patrol 1. It is a dynamite scanner. I love it! It allows me to monitor pretty much everything I want and it does other things I like. The audio is pretty good, even while monitoring a system like fleetnet where the analogue and digital comms were too low and too loud respectively on my older scanners.

If I had extra $ I would buy a PSR800 or a 396XT Portable or 996XT Base. The 396XT is tiny and is a workhorse.

So, anyways, do your homework and dont be afraid to ask questions.
