A Wyoming mobile/fixed setup
Here are some pics of my mobile and home shack. I spend a LOT of time driving, so I have crammed lots-o-crap into my truck.
I am active from 80 meters up through 70cm. I have a 5 inch HI-Q screwdriver antenna for HF, and a roof full of Larsen antennas for everything else. XM radio, Ft-100D face for HF, Pro-197 for my digital scanning, TM-271a as my "analog scanner" and backup 2 meter rig for when my other gives out while in the woods.
This image is a little askew, but it shows the custom bracket I welded to hold up some radios. It is all steel that I powdercoated. Sits perfectly and looks decent.
This pic shows my main dual band rig (IC-2720). The control head is mounted up in the sun strip of the windshield. It is out of my field of vision, but I can easily see it without taking my eyes off the road. It is also hard for folks to see from the outside. Great place if you are thinking of mounting a small control head.
That does it for the vehicle, so here is the home station. My radios are not super impressive and I believe that antennas are FAR more important than rigs, so here is my main tower. 50 feet to the HF yagi. It is a 6 element tri bander. 24 foot boom, 32 foot rear element. Above that is an 11 element 2 meter beam for SSB work at 60 feet. I have since added a big dual band antenna above the beam for local FM work. Then you can see the cross arm with the weather station and a dual band GP for scanning.
With only 100 watts, I have been able to work over 200 new DX entities in less than 1 year.
Here is a pic of me putting the finishing touches on the beam. You can see the scale of the setup. I am 6'5" tall and the hardware easily dwarfs me.
Thanks for looking. I am constantly updating so I will have to post more sometimes. Stuff constantly gets improved over winters at this altitude. It is amazing how fragile metal gets a -40 degrees.
