Right ive completely sorted it now, this is how. On my recorder volume I put it completely off which means on the Audio level meter it shows nothing. When an Acars message is recieved it then climbs up the audio meter into the green and shows the message and picture just fine.. Very weird but it works!

thanks all.

After now setting up my ACARSD I am still trying different volume levels because when Im watching the Audio Level Meters they are rising all of the time but ACARSD is only reading the odd few of them. Is this normal? is it because ACARSD only reads the strong signals?

thanks.

WoW!!!! this software is excellent. I can click and have a picture of the plane on the screen in a second.
I think i found a new thing to listen for instead of just the police bands.

What does the blue lines which join up airports or aircraft mean? One plane with a different flight number leads to another with a different flight number and the first one goes white. What does it all mean? I have one attached here.

#1. It looks like you enabled the option to “show departure and arrival airport” on the map configure window.

The blue line is an estimate of the route the aircraft has taken.
The actual route may be different…
Because, acarsd plots a direct route between received position reports.

With #1 enabled, if the airports appear on the map and the acars message contains routing information,
acarsd will draw a line from the departure airport to arrival airport and the aircraft will be plotted along that line.
The current position report is the red point.
Previous position reports, including departure/arrival airports, are the white points.
Acarsd just connect the points.

Aircraft, like cars, use a map, charts, with routes instead of roads.
So another position report along a previous line, route, is common.
Once a year our local airport has an open house and they give away, free, New York State aeronautical charts.
Contact your local airport to see if they have an open house. They may not offer free charts but I don’t think one would cost much.

In many states, those maps may also be available from the State for free or little cost. You could contact the state agency that is concerned with aviation or even the office of one of your local legislators. They will often send constituents things for free that one would otherwise have to pay for.
