Hi all, I recently purchased the Uniden BC796D because it scans both digital and analog, but cannot for the life of me program it correctly. I am following the instructions on the Manual for conventional scanning and transplanting the data from Radio Reference to the scanner... but it does not work. At one point I was only hearing consistent static, but now I am hearing nothing at all. Please, if anyone could given advice, that would be amazing.

Note, my only other familiarity with programming a scanner is regarding my analog Uniden BC125AT.

Welcome to the RR forums,
Please reply back with specific agencies you intend on monitoring so we can get eyes on the database and see if the BC796D is the right receiver for the job & rule out issues (encryption, simulcast distortion among others) which may hinder your scanning efforts. Would rather not offer blind advice.

If you let us know what services, county, and state that you are trying to monitor, we could probably assist you better. The suggestion by @jtwalker to use scanner programming software like ProScan by @ProScan is a very wise suggestion. Digital systems function differently than analog systems which is why a lot of us here use ProScan. That software also has a 30-day FREE trial so you can see all that ProScan is capable of doing. And ProScan can do a LOT! Check it out…

Welcome to the forums! Does the scanner have the digital card installed? APCO P25 CARD INSTALLED will flash on the display during the boot process. If you remove the top center screw on the EXPANSION SLOT cover on the rear of the scanner, you can remove the cover to see if the card is present. The BC796D does not support 700 MHz frequencies and is capable of P25 Phase 1 only. It would help to know your city or town, county, and state and what you would like to monitor for us to be able to assist you. You can also use Butel ARC250 programming software. Both ARC250 and ProScan have a free trial period to decide which one you like better. Latest firmware version is 3.60. You can check the version by holding the 2, 4, and 9 buttons while turning on the scanner.
