Hi guys, I'm a newbie to this forum but not a newbie when it comes to radio or aircraft as I'm a retired aircraft avionic engineer! Hope I can assist somebody one day but at the moment I have a small problem with a simple answer but I just can't spot it!

The acars decode itself works fine. I'm about 25km from Christchurch NZ airport and an approach beacon is about 1 km away so aircraft just about go overhead! Plenty of data! I have loaded a map into the 'card-1.gif' and it displays OK but won't plot the position of any aircraft on it. What I don't know is what is the position format for a: the map and B; the aircraft, as surely they have to be the same. I have put the map positions in as -42.00 and -45.00 for 42 and 45 south and 171.00 and 173.00 for the East. But if the data from the aircraft is a different format it's not going to plot! HELP! Or is there just a magic button that I haven't pressed!

Thanks and best regards - Marty

I think there was no problem. Leaving the rig running for the day and extending the display time gave me a map display of only two aircraft, Singapore Airlines and Emirates. There is little need for Mode S ATC here so I guess the position data is not available to the ACARS on the aircraft. Oh, well back to the drawing board....
