Anything interesting is encrypted and has been for a number of years - only things clear are flight service related or contractors - although occasional clear talk-groups that are fire alarm techs from NAS Pensacola and NAS Jacksonville show up - no idea why they are on the NASCC and NASKINGS sites now and then

Most of the flight support and air ops stuff is clear but over at NAS Corpus where I was pretty much everything else was encrypted, even public works - 29600 is the Truax field/NASCC tower group and 29576 is the A/C maintenance contractor - most everything went dark just before I retired and I have tried listening to them just a couple of times in the last few years - it is interesting during airshow time though with all that flight support has going on the flightline

I understand, but still NAS Corpus tower on Kingsville NAS system cseems a bit strange. On a related but somewhat different subject, I was going to create a new post, but thought might ask you first since you might know the answer to my question. Other than the MOA and gunnery range frequencies, is there a frequency or frequencies to monitor for plane to plane coms, like when the Hawks talk to their wingman? Thanks for the info.

If I still have it I had a list of local aircraft comm freqs that were in use when I retired, let me think about where it is for a while - although It may have changed by now - NASCC tower on the Kingsville site is bout normal, the group gets added to a site as the radio changes site affiliation so someone from Corpus flight support probably was over at NASKINGS for some reason - when we went to the range at Kingsville our radios affiliated with the Kingsville site, the site controller saw what group we were on, confirmed we were valid users and added our group to the site

The likely scenario is someone local turned their radio to one of those talk groups and caused the local system to start broadcasting the talk group. I have a similar issue over here in California with NAS Lemoore (where everything is out in the open). I’ll occasionally get other bases like Ventura or China lake, especially when we have something big going on and we get help from other bases.

I see that does explain it, if you can find that list that would be much appreciated. Tnanks

don't seem to have the list anymore, at least hope is dimming - I purged 22 years of paperwork and files when I retired and it looks like the freq lists were in there too - couple more places to look on an old computer in the back of a cabinet later in the week but not holding my breath

I appreciate your going to the trouble, on a similar note I hear tower keep saying change to local channel 12, 15, 16 these wouldn't be channels on the TG by any chance if not any idea what Milair Frequencies they are?

It’s possible. My local navy base has a half dozen talkgroups for fire and also for law enforcement and that’s similar to how the firefighters and MPs refer to them. The airfield crew also has a few talkgroups so they may do something similar.

So far as I know the aircraft don't have radios on the trunking systems - the radios in the trainers have 20 slots (channels) that can be preset to local air freqs in use - they are the comon freqs like the towers, the outlying fields, plane to plane and so forth then they print out the info on a card and tape it to the control panel - that way they don't have to check their notes for a frequency and its also easier than trying to dial in the freq on the radio panel while paying attention to learning to fly - like shown on the lower part of the T34 instrument panel in the pic - I think it was out of Edwards AFB area
