A2-- 34.95 FM 1950h

In the blind advisory by a "Guard helicopter" that it was going to be operating at low level in the "Alert Area" for "the next two zero minutes"

see:

36.35FM has historically been the advisory frequency listed officially and on NOTAMs for A-531, a low level training area to the east of KVUJ and generally encompassing most of the Uwharrie National Forest.

I have heard 34.95 in actual use making these short advisories more often than 36.35, but I have had only infrequent rx of either. 34.95 has been heard used locally for more than In The Blind advisories.

Unknown what is considered the current official frequency as all NOTAMs for A-531 came to a sudden stop a long time ago, but not the activity, just the required notice.

A surprisingly scratchy rx, but it was received on a scanner inside the house with a back of set telescoping antenna on a BC365CRS with locked in frequency modulation, likely too narrow, likely not helping.

I switched back tabs after hitting enter on the last post, and for no more than the amount of time it took to get my cursor to hover over the C-17, to show its basic flight details as well as the H-60, who had just been there, and hit "prt sc", for no longer than that, the C17 was shown on ADSBx. And then disappeared.

There is an active run on IR-721, properly posted and noted on Special Use Airspace & Air Traffic Control Assigned Airspace. I have never seen A-531 posted, ever, on the site.

A double check of the NOTAMs shows nothing for A-531. I have observed this sort of shared airspace thing many a time, prompted by radio traffic, traffic that I do not believe is being heard by the intended parties, and I wonder in these instances if I am the only who knows where everyone is. I can only hope the military TCAS functionality is better than the ADSBx receptions would lead one to believe.

EDIT: Apparently the C-17 was picked up better than I indicated. This is why it is good I am not a pilot.

My SA has always been weak.

Anyone have any idea of the comms for Robin Sage coming up next week? I am in Rowan County and it is listed as one of the counties where they will possibly be so I was just wondering about comms. I am set up to hear a lot of need be. Thanks in advance!!

Prior to the system change the Ft Bragg Base Support TRS carried alot of traffic, via towers 4-7, and being those towers only carried traffic during those periods, it was all relevant. With the new system and reported encryption, that's not a good sign, but it is still worth listening until widespread encryption during the exercise can be confirmed.

The thing is if you scan low band in 25 or 50khz steps you are pretty assured of catching some activity, most all the A2G activity is in the clear. The ground-ground comms are sometimes in the clear, but a screaming amount of whitenoise/static that your scanner keeps stopping on is the sound of the low-band encryption. For whatever reason it seemed that with 30-50mhz, 50khz spacing seemed to be preferred, at least for this exercise, really making it not worthwhile to bother going smaller, but it is wide open with 60-70mhz and 25khz searching is the only safe way to go. If you leave one scanner parked on 126.275 for KVUJ and another shortlisted with 32.1, 34.8, 40.7, 143.200 (JETBIRD), 293.000, you'll be sure to catch something on at least a couple of evenings.

122.8 and 122.9, at night will give you some idea as to where they are slipping in and out of the uncontrolled airstrips.

If you look thru the listings in the pdf:

A large portion of those entries were Sage related, I just didn't broadcast that aspect, recording the dates instead.

If you are in rural Rowan, a non-DMR upgraded PRO-668 (or Whistler) in signal stalker mode, hooked up to an outdoor CB antenna or long wire thrown over a tree limb might catch some stuff. It's surprising how thick the activity can be sometimes.

I have the SDR scanning the whole 225-400 spectrum every 11 seconds and have been getting some audio but haven't fully got into it to what I'm hearing.
Update....with the addition of an Airspy r2, I am now scanning the milair spectrum in about 1.5 seconds. Getting lots of hits and audio on the recorder when I am at work.

some sort of co-ord chit chat

Weak Rx, to now strong.

As this is usually a KNKT/fighter type freq I normally disregard, there rarely being any fighter aircraft operating within my area of interest, and virtually never on ADSBx but as it got stronger and more clear I checked ADSBx and see:

Harrier

Right overhead, so perhaps that is one of the two??

1525: Weaker now, intermittent, discussing winds at landing field, never are able to catch runway numbers or any other ID info.
