Last year I was in Colorado Springs for Christmas break. The USAFA had very little traffic except for encryption on TG's 48000, 48016, & 48096. There was a little airfield and pre-flight traffic on TG's 18720, 22608, 18432, & 18704.

Monitored the USAFA system from the hospital area for about an hour today. Used the PSR500 in sweeper mode and the PRO96 in open mode. Only thing heard was the maintenance contractors. Got them on both radios. Also search 406-420 but found nothing new. Manuals say both the 96 and 500 will not receive encrypted transmissions. The rumor/insider info some time ago was that all bases in our area would eventually go encrypted. I imagine that's already happened for the military TGs on this system. Oh well. The air freqs were alway much more interesting than the trunked system anyway.

Was on the academy (again!) for about an hour this PM. Heard Academy control in the clear tell all posts and patrols to switch to TAC-1 without acknowledgment. This was on TG 29536 which I have as an unident security TG, not the normal dispatch. Nothing heard clear after that. BUT.. in sweeper mode had hits on P25 encryption on all freqs except active CC listed for the system in RRDB. All max signal strength according to the bar display. I'm guessing "tac-1" is an encrypted TG that I don't have. Was doing a wildcard scan too but don't understand why I got no hits. Heard no other traffic at all. My 2 cents.
