Dispatched by Middlebury PD

Middlebury FD - 154.40 R - 153.83 in - 155.76

Middlebury Ambulance - 155.295 - 155.22 R

Dispatched locally

Shoreham FD - 151.415 R - 155.715 - 155.895 - 159.0225 in

Orwell FD - 154.385 R - 159.45 - ? DPW 156.045

----------------------------

Apparently some FDs share some freqs with other FDs, and with some DPWs. Some repeater input channels seem to be shared also.

155.715 seems to be the countywide fire channel but I dont know how it is used.

154.28 is licensed to the County Fire Chiefs Assoc IIRC - probably as Fireground

There are no other fire, ems, or DPW freqs licensed.

Paxton and Waltham do not have FDs. Leicester might not have a FD either.

First question - Is 155.715 used to page out most FDs?

In Central Vermont, Washington County FD's are toned out on 154.1900.

Here are some other counties that use 154.1900:

Fire Dispatch Peacham, Village of Caledonia Cty. VT
Fire Fireground St. Johnsbury, Town of Caledonia Cty.VT
Fire Dispatch Greensboro, Town of Caledonia Cty. VT
Fire Dispatch Hardwick, Town of Caledonia Cty.VT
Fire Dispatch Groton, Town of Caledonia Cty.VT
Fire Dispatch Danville, Town of Caledonia Cty.VT
Fire Dispatch Walden, Town of Caledonia Cty.VT
Fire Dispatch (occasional use) Alburg, Town of Grand Isle Cty. VT
Fire Dispatch (includes Barre City) Capital Fire Mutual Aid System, Washington Cty. VT

Looking at this info, and asking the questions - "what freq does DPW use? and "what is the FD local freq?" - the following questions arise

1. What is the Addison DPW freq? What is the FD local freq?

2. What is the Weybridge FD primary and local channel?

3. What is the Monkton FD local freq, and what is the Monkton DPW freq?

4. What is the Starksboro FD local freq and what is the Starksboro DPW freq?

I am still trying to figure this all out. Let me try to list the operating parameters for the primary channels.

1. Each FD needs a paging channel that is clear. Or relatively clear of other users.

2. Each FD needs a relatively clear channel to conduct their response and their onscene ops.

3. Each DPW needs a freq - but it can be shared with other DPWs. The DPW freq can be used as a low priority FD channel.

Here is a alphabetical list of agencies. (Lets assume that 154.28 is the secondary freq for each FD, and lets assume it is used for fireground ops)

Addison - FD page 155.715 - DPW ???
Bridport - 155.715 FD page - 155.925 156.105 159.255 ???
Bristol - 155.715 FD page - 154.43R ??? - 155.82 DPW
Cornwall - 155.805 FD page (???) - DPW ???
Ferrisburgh - 155.715 FD page - 155.955 DPW
Leicester - ???
Lincoln - 155.715 FD page - 155.805 DPW - 154.845R ? - 156.1275R ?
Middlebury - 154.40R FD page and ops - 155.295 Amb - 155.76 DPW
Monkton - 155.715 FD page - 155.805 DPW
New Haven - 155.715 FD page - 153.95M ??? - 155.88 DPW
Orwell - 154.385 FD page - 159.45 ??? - 156.045 DPW
Ripton - 154.10 FD page + DPW
Salisbury - 154.415 FD page - DPW ???
Shoreham - 155.895 FD page - 151.415R DPW
Starksboro - 155.715 FD page - 155.805 DPW
Vergennes - 155.715 FD page - DPW ??? - Rescue 155.265R - 158.835 ? FD
Weybridge - 155.715 FD page - 156.195R DPW
Whiting - 154.385 FD page - 158.865 DPW ?

Many question marks there. EMS is not really covered yet. ?????

With the amount of calls received in the low hundreds for many of those agencies, or for places like Orwell that may see 100 calls all year, they opt to save the money on individual radio systems and share a common system. The system isn't all that congested on the Addison County side (or Washington County "Capital Fire Mutual Aid".)

Per the Leicester 2011 Annual Report -

Brandon FD provides service for $20,000 per year. Brandon Rescue provides (ambulance) service for $5,000 per year

DPW budget is approx $250K overall - they have grader, loader, plow, 2 sanders, and 1 truck - they spend $75K to rent equipment (from Arlan Pidgeon) - they spend $40K on salaries for 6 people - spend $60K on materials - have a Town Shed

Law enforcement expense was $14,000 in 2011. Civil fines from Sheriff Patrol earned the Town $8,500

Based on all of that we might expect that Leicester would have a DPW radio system. Or perhaps Arlan Pidegeon serves the Town as a "Road Agent" and provides a radio system as part of those services.

Such is life in small town Vermont.

(They have a local school K to 6 - 6 teachers - 60 students - 10/1 ratio)

Can anyone clarify this?

If the Sheriff no longer has a dispatcher - who dispatches Ripton, Cornwall, Bridport, Salisbury, and Whiting FDs now?

If a FD is paged on 155.715, are most of the followup comms on 155.715 also?

Do any of the FDs switch over to the DPW freq for minor calls?

Is this list pretty much correct?

Addison - FD page 155.715 - DPW ???
Bridport - 155.715 FD page - 155.925 156.105 159.255 ???

Vermont's 9-1-1 System | Enhanced 9-1-1 Board - PSAP map - unknown date

Merging the info from the PSAP map with my previous post yields -

SHELB PSAP - Addison - FD page 155.715 - DPW ???

RUTLAND PSAP - Bridport - 155.715 FD page - 155.925 156.105 159.255 ???

SHELB PSAP - Bristol - 155.715 FD page - 154.43R ??? - 155.82 DPW

RUTLAND PSAP - Cornwall - 155.805 FD page (???) - DPW ???

SHELB PSAP - Ferrisburgh - 155.715 FD page - 155.955 DPW

SHELB PSAP - Lincoln - 155.715 FD page - 155.805 DPW - 154.845R ? - 156.1275R ?

RUTLAND PSAP - Middlebury - 154.40R FD page and ops - 155.295 Amb - 155.76 DPW

SHELB PSAP - Monkton - 155.715 FD page - 155.805 DPW

SHELB PSAP - New Haven - 155.715 FD page - 153.95M ??? - 155.88 DPW

RUTLAND PSAP - Orwell - 154.385 FD page - 159.45 ??? - 156.045 DPW

RUTLAND PSAP - Ripton - 154.10 FD page + DPW

RUTLAND PSAP - Salisbury - 154.415 FD page - DPW ???

RUTLAND PSAP - Shoreham - 155.895 FD page - 151.415R DPW

SHELB PSAP - Starksboro - 155.715 FD page - 155.805 DPW

SHELB PSAP - Vergennes - 155.715 FD page - DPW ??? - Rescue 155.265R - 158.835 ? FD

SHELB PSAP - Weybridge - 155.715 FD page - 156.195R DPW

RUTLAND PSAP - Whiting - 154.385 FD page - 158.865 DPW ?

-------------------

Granville and Hancock by Rockingham PSAP

Therefore - if each PSAP also did the paging, then there would only be 3 dispatch (paging) points. Possibly only 3 paging channels.

Zerg, let me see if I can help you out.

First off, Shelburne PD dispatches for most Fire and EMS agencies in Addison County on 155.7150 using several PL/DCS (which seem to be based on repeater location, see list below)

Addison Fire
Bridport Fire
Bristol Fire
Cornwall Fire
Ferrisburg Fire
Lincoln Fire
Monkton Fire
New Haven Fire
Ripton Fire
Salisbury Fire
Starksboro Fire
Townline First Response
Weybridge Fire
Whiting Fire

I have also heard rumor that Shoreham Fire is moving over Shelburne PD (currently self dispatched) but cant confirm that yet.

As you discovered, there is no Leicester Fire Department, they are covered by Brandon Fire, which is dispatch by VSP Rutland or "State Dispatch"

As stated earlier, there are multiple PL/DCS that I have logged on 155.7150 for Shelburne PD, here are a few that I have jotted down in my phone, there are others. For my listening, I plug in all the PL/DCS plus leave a 155.7150 without any so I dont miss any traffic.

DCS 047
PL 141.3
PL 114.8
PL 156.7
PL 162.2

Middlebury Fire and Orwell Fire are the only FD's in Addison County not dispatched by Shelburne, (other than Shoreham which im not sure what there status is).

As far as DPW's, I cant help as I dont generally listen to those.

When I get to my home computer, I will try and post secondary channels the FD's use. For the most part, departments operate on the dispatch channel, unless there are multiple calls or a larger incident.

FWIW...I have a long response to this thread that I started in Word on another computer, waiting to go back to pull some discoveries from more of my scanners before I share the list. Hoping to just post once and make it be complete.

I have confirmed that Shoreham is now being dispatched by Shelburne PD. As far as what frequency, I havent heard yet, but I would assume 155.7150

Lets see if I can sum it all up correctly -----

All of the fire departments in Addison County are dispatched by Shelburne PD on 155.715

except

Leicester is served by Brandon FD which is dispatched on 154.25 by Rutland State Police

except

Middlebury FD which is dispatched on 154.40 R by Middlebury PD usually

except

Orwell FD which is dispatched on 154.385 R by someone

except

that maybe Rockingham State Police dispatch Hancock FD on maybe 151.175 R (new) and Granville FD on maybe 155.8425 R (new)

Thats it, Orwell is self dispatched by members of the department.
