I guess now I have a reason to finish the install of my own monitoring system for local aircraft.
It's likely a DDoS, so it's either someone controlling a large network or, more likely, a group of folks controlling a large network.I logged in to ADSB a few minutes ago. and got a "Support our Advertisers" popup. I have little problem supporting the site expenses IF there are some clear commitments from the owners that this is solely for site maintenance, server expenses etc. I know what server costs are etc so I will not accept a general cash grab or ransom type demands like this "The site will be shut down if we do not get 1,000,000,000 by midnight".
If we are funding the site then the site must remain open to everyone and run as it has been in the past. I do not mind a drive to bring in new feeders as long as its not going to be a pile of popups every 5 minutes. In fact popups of any type are a big annoyance and should not be there. A simple "support" button in the menu would be fine.
I speculate that the DOS attack is from someone not happy with the new ownership.
SITE BACK WORKING
Its back

The link in the acquisition story that has the www. works fine.
Home - Serving the Flight Tracking Enthusiast - ADS-B Exchange works
https//adsbexchange.com is not working.
Same. It's the only site that show our local police helicopters.Likewise, because most of what I track isn't visible on FR24 or Flightaware.
New version of ADSBx is online and quickly growing in feeders. Being called ADSBFI and is being run by the same people (except for one) who made ADSBx great, it is available at globe.adsb.fi/tar1090.
I believe that's because the people feeding the data to the old site have to become aware of the new site and decide to feed to the new site. Or alternatively, people who haven't fed data before need to start feeding to the new site to fill in the gaps. In this type of data sharing, all the data isn't going to be on a new site instantly. It has to grow. Not sure what changed but new shows much less than old.

and still has 1/7th the traffic of the old and growing by the minute
Wonder how many feeders are the "set it and forget it" type. I would bet there are a ton off feeders who do not know about any of this. This is the doc if you want to move your feed to the new site.
