AF1/POTUS/CAP - Monitoring

I feel like I didn't take advantage of this back during 2017-2021 living in South Florida. I would often see re-fuelers on ADSB and then spot them in the backyard.

I did hear AF1 on FLL Tower which was cool. I know most of the LE Comms is encrypted which feels like groundhog day to me anyways.

I would like to know the frequencies used for CAP operations. As well as re-fueling frequencies. I can figure out the VFR/IFR charts but any of the frequencies the tankers orbiting are on would be nice. I often monitor local control towers in Broward and the surface to 4,000 on Miami so I have a basic idea of how air comms work.

I did a search and found that "260.9, 228.9, and 247.05" were listed as being heard often. Is this still the case and is it geographically dependent?

Thanks gang. I need to do something while the fire pager frequency is on the fritz again.

If anyone has any frequencies for either CAP, or updated ZMA high/low frequencies please post them here. I was able to hear AF1 as he landed over the weekend on MIA Tower.

Did not capture any of the CAP or Refueling this weekend. AF1 departed MIA about 30 minutes ago. Naturally I missed it as they flew over my house.

CAP fighters change every few months, and when they do so do the A-A freqs they use for chit chat, likewise with the tankers.

Trump should be back in the area (WPB) Jan 31 to Feb 2.

Oh how I long for those days of "Echo/Foxtrot"
Haven't heard of the term E/F for years. When I was a young engineer with GE in the 1970's it was whispered around the office. We apparently furnished the ground stations for the system to AT&T (i.e. Western Electric) for the system. I believe they were installed at AT&T Long Lines microwave towers. Only certain people knew of the system and I wasn't in the loop! Maybe you were?

407.850/ 415.700 if I recall ... There were multiple receivers all over the country, at the Long Lines bunkers.

When most of those bunkers were scrapped, I think the three letter boys probably stripped those racks of everything important, including the E/F receivers, but there's some youtube videos that still show Long Lines installs in surprisingly great shape with stuff left over if you ever look. :giggle:

Here is a link to a current list of Milair freqs that are used during CAPs covering Washington DC and other points of interest in the Mid-Atlantic area. They are also in use during other times in the area. --

Also in the linked post is a list of military callsigns. Both documents were created by Ron (mdmonitor) and are regularly updated by him. The docs are a big help to me and others that monitor Milair in our area. Welcome to the world of monitoring Milair/POTUS CAPs.

Not all of them were scrapped :) This one was left in the Brewton, AL long lines site. I believe the equipped aircraft used a Modified UHF Motorola Mitrek for the downlink.

These frequencies were taken from a post on the Mid-Atlantic Mir-Air thread last week when POTUS was in South Florida.

"Miami. We have a northern and southern tanker support. There is 2 groups of Nobles flying CAP.
228.9 Noble 31 with Huntress.
231.625 New tanker freq not previously used. Southern tanker
264.800 Refueling Noble flights 31, 32. Northern tanker"

The 228.9000 is currently active - Callsigns Noble and Wink heard.
231.6250 is also active. (Air to Air chit chat)

I am still fairly new to Mir-Air so pardon the fragmented info. Noble appears to be the re-fueler. Wink is CAP...

No ADSB transmitting...

NEGATIVE Ghostrider the pattern is full, switch those callsigns around Noble is always the fighters (Ohio F-16's from Toledo have gone TDY at Homestead) and tankers this time are WINK flying out of KMCF.

You got four years to learn the terms, so no worries about being new.

Back in the 90’s when AF1 came to town, I’d listen to 415.7. It was a phone patch freq used by anyone who needed to make a call from the plane. Mostly “hi Honey, be home in a few hours”.
