• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I’m looking for an affordable voice logging recorder for a vehicle install project I’m working on. I can’t afford an eventide… I just need it to record when I’m TXing and when RXing, preferably with each instance creating a separate time stamped file.

Anything using an SD card, thumb drive, or internal storage with a Wi-Fi connection will work. Doesn’t have to be fancy or new, as long as it works!

Thanks everyone!

I for years have used a program called snooper. Its still around. It does require a windows PC. We used it for both SAR and the FD for quite some time to record our activation and send it via email. Worked great. I still use it at home in my lab for some things. In our old command post I had it on a laptop then switched to a vehicel PC. Now I run it on a NUC in our CP. Its set to autostart.

Interesting! Thanks for posting. I figured there was a software option floating around… fairy certain the eventide is just a nuc running Linux with some proprietary software… I have a couple old i3 dells I could test with. Then, my main issue is going to be power management. I need it to power up and down with the car (or at least the radio), which may happen a dozen times per day.

I could add a jack that connects to the power button and tell the thing to sleep/wake when pressing the power button, then it’s just some simple logic parts.

Thanks again… definitely an option!

Been dealing with a TLMR Eventide implimentation for a few weeks. Its definately not a NUC. At least the system I'm working on.

As for power on and power off as I said I was using a mobile computer with my last command post. It had a 12v power supply and ignition source. We ran W98 on it at the time and the ignition would send a shut down or wake up command. Took about 5 minutes to boot up. I have it in a box someplace I'll take a look for it on the weekend. I would think easiest thing may be a small laptop as it can stay powered up until your ready to shutdown. a NUC would require a monitor to shut down properly. Another option is an old MDT style pc from ebay.

Recording incoming traffic seems simple, but recording the outgoing traffic not so much...
I'm mostly Kenwood and EFJ and both record in and out traffic with timestamp. I also have instant replay to aid my failing memory. On our activations I'm usually the only one with recorded audio of what happened. My blackmail opportunities are vast--
Maybe use a unication pager to capture off the air directly rather than hooked into the radio itself. Are you using a lot of conventional channels (limited number of conventional scan channels in unication) or are you on a trunk system?
