What's the usable spectrum bandwidth on it? I looked on the specs sheet, don't see it there...

• Up to 710 kHz alias and image free output for 912 KSPS IQ
• High Dynamic Range HF/IF circuit based on 2 x Sigma Delta ADCs @ 36 MSPS followed by a Digital Down Converter (18-bit DDC) and controlled by the Core AGC

I'm also really curious! I wonder if it varies from frequency band? HF probably wont get as much bandwidth as VHF/UHF.

Form factor looks very much like the HF+ / Discovery. The board ID for the Ranger was added last year - and then removed - from github.

I suspect the Ranger is mostly an HF+ extended from 260MHz to beyond 1 GHz. We'll see ...

Link to the Ranger page is not visible but it is still on the server here: Airspy Ranger - AIRSPY
or read the updated info below.

"Update: As of 2024/08/24, we are encountering some problems with the manufacturing logistics, as our main manufacturer Itead studio unilaterally decided NOT to support this project. There are multiple reasons, most notably the complexity of such project in terms of testing and production management.

The good news is that the project is not cancelled and we are working on many improvements to facilitate its manufacturing. If you are an OEM who are not afraid of black magic RF, contact our engineering team."

We just have to wait and see...

On Dec. 18, I asked on the Airspy e-list if there was an update available on the Ranger. That message was never released to the list by the moderator. I'm thinking that's not a good sign.

Or more likely, prog says something only if it is something new to say. So if he is quiet does not always mean something is bad. We just have to be patience.

And just how difficult would it been to say "Not at this time"?

As of 24 dec there was an update on the somewhat hidden ranger page at airspy.
"Update: As of 2024/12/24, the Ranger project is moving forward with a new team. The PCB size has shrinked by a whooping 40% and the performance of the UHF path has improved."

Hot off the presses:

There is an update 5/9/25. I am delighted the project is moving along. Also, it makes reference to an airspy R3. Also happy to hear of possible improvements to that. The one thing that concerns is, so far from reviewing the high level diagrams they provided, is how well will it perform for 700/800mhz bands w/out additional filtering. In any event 700/800 would not be my primary application for this unit.

Keep up the good work airspy team! I think I have 9 or so airspys and look forward to adding new models to the stable.

From website: "Update: As of 2025/06/06, all the samples produced are alive and well. The expected frequency coverage is ~DC to 2.6 GHz with a high performance target. Now optimizing for production."
