The key is an external broadband antenna. You need something that will get up and away from local noise and pull in some signals otherwise it will keep getting stuck on hash and crap.

Got external antenna but need to get it higher and clear some obstructions, getting a few actives on the 780 but few and far between will work on it.

Any recommendations antenna wise? I'm currently using 3 separate band specific antennas (VHF & UHF ground planes and an 800mhz yagi) and swapping back and forth. Would like to get a good all-round antenna and get it up in the air come spring time. Really looking forward to using the Airspy when the bands start to open up in the warmer months!

I like my wideband SA7000 antenna. Done well with it but also have not compared it to others yet. For my limited mounting options its done well. I hope to have my outside shack built by spring which will open my antenna options.

Airspy and multicoupler don't play nice together. Airspy software freezes seems like airspy shuts down the usb, don't like the signal at all hooked it direct to same ant without multicoupler all is well..Just FYI.

Probably has nothing to do with your multicoupler.

Are you running FW 0.9.9.x ? Or did you update to FW 1.0.0-rc3?

I had same problem with losing communications with the Airspy over USB, quite often, usually after attempting to adjust sample rate / decimation / etc.

Once I updated to FW 1.0.0-rc3, I haven't had a problem since.

Well basically I swap from direct antenna to muiticoupler and airspy freaks out without changing any settings, but i will see what firmware I have and update.

I'd also say that you have to watch when moving around that Airspy with the mini/microUSB attached. On mine, after the second day I noticed that if the connector jiggled just a bit inside the jack, it would disconnect the Airspy.

I don't know if my USB jack in the Airspy is broken, or if this is common amongst other users of Airspys. I didn't want to try and send it back because I enjoy using it so much and don't want to be without it. I just determined that I'd secure the Airspy and the USB cable in one spot with very little chance of the connector having any moment, to avoid having the Airspy disconnect from USB.

So -- be sure that the troublesome spot on yours isn't actually the USB connector area.

I'm using the cable that came with the Airspy and so far have no problems. I noticed that the micro USB connector on the cable has little prongs on the bottom that seem to hold it in place.

Now I'm eagerly waiting for the new version of DSD+.

Looks like I fixed my multicoupler issue, not really a fix but it don't like an Ant swap while the unit is on. Once I turn off the unit change to multicoupler then restart all is well.

This is probably not an Airspy question, but since it might involve the decimation settings, I'm going to pose it as one.

We're at the beginning of a significant snow storm here in the northeast. Good chance to play with Airspy, SDR#, and DSD#.

I installed the latest version of SDR# and reinstalled Airspy using Zadig. Of course I never wrote down the Airspy settings I was using in SDR#, so I had to start again.

I was having a hard time decoding a couple of 900Mhz MotoTrbo trunking systems. Lots of errors at first. I got the settings to where I had fairly good signal, but the audio was still garbled. I finally set the Decimation to 4 and data decoding is very good.

What I'm not sure about is if the snow is affecting the reception or if that's just the setting I'll have to use.

It's probably more of a 900Mhz reception question, but would appreciate some thoughts.

I found that the Mixer Gain and LNA Gain work well on AUTO. Has anyone else found that they don't work well?

That's what I found too. I adjusted them, but got the best results just setting them to auto.

I won't say that Auto doesn't work well. It's dependent on a few variables.

I always get best results by fallowing the recommended tuning method. Of course, the values if you manually tune will be a little different for everyone depending upon frequency, strong local signals, etc. I never use Auto.
