Anyone here have a suggestion on how to receive and display AIS data on a large LCD monitor?

Easiest is this: Boatnerd

Otherwise you'll generally need a discriminator-tapped receiver and be fairly close to the shore. I forget which AIS software I tried. I could hear the signal but was never able to decode it and gave up.

Go to that MarineTraffic website and apply for a free AIS receiver with a 5/8 GP antenna with coax.

If the application goes through you could use a small windows laptop and connect a big LCD screen to it. You will see your own received AIS ships on a map when logged in to your receiver and you will also get free access to MarineTraffics own map where the combined data from all users are plotted.
